QRD Weekly Report – Sunday November 15, 2015
Madison Excavating Minor Atoms lost 4-2 to Clarington last Wednesday, and lost 3-2 in Markham on Saturday. In their only game of the week, the Free Flow Petroleum Minor Bantams beat the Oshawa Generals 5-0. Nick McGowan had the shut-out.  The KKP Minor Midgets defeated Central, and lost to York-Simcoe and Kingston. Crossfit Belleville Bantams lost 6-1 in Barrie and won 5-1 against North Central in Orillia. The Vanderlaan Major peewees defeated North Central 4-3.

Madison Excavating - Minor Atom

The Madison Excavating Minor Atoms faced a tough week on the road, traveling midweek to Clarington to face the Toros at the Darlington Arena. The two teams were evenly matched from the start, with both teams seeing scoring opportunities and strong goal tending.  However, it was the Toros who managed to tally 2 goals late in the first to take the lead of the game.  The quick Devils answered back with two goals of their own in the second. Getting the first notch on the scoreboard was Thomas Kuipers with an unassisted goal. The second goal came from Brody Partridge, assisted by Gage Butcher.  While the Devils outplayed the Toros, it was Clarington who managed a few lucky bounces to score 2 more before the end of the second.  Going into the third, the Devils generated many scoring chances but luck was not on their side and finished the third with both teams scoreless, ending in a 4-2 loss for Quinte. Dean Spry was between the pipes for the Minor Atoms.

Saturday had the Devils back on the road to Markham to face the Waxers.  It was a battle between the two teams - both matching speed and resilience. At the end of the first, both teams remained scoreless. Shortly into the second, the Waxers managed to get on the scoreboard.  The unintimidated Devils quickly responded with a goal of their own from Liam Philip, assisted by Jared Langdon and Butcher to tie the game.  Both teams faced numerous penalty kills and power plays, but it was the

Waxers who managed to capitalize and took a 3-1 lead in the third. The Devils remained determined and battled to the last second with Ben Vreugdenhil scoring with 1 second on the clock on an assist from Kuipers. The Devils simply ran out of time but not determination to succumb to the 3-2 loss.  Glen McInnes was in net for the Devils.

The Madison Excavating Minor Atoms will be looking for redemption this week as they host the Toros at RCAF on Friday at 8pm and then back on the road Sunday to take on the Oshawa Generals at 4:15.

KKP  - Minor Midget
The KKP  - Minor Midget Devils played three games this week against the best that the ETA has to offer. They were all tightly contested bouts with the Devils holding ground and their place in the ETA East.
Saturday Nov 14
(4-2 Loss to York Simcoe Express)
It was a great team on team battle in the KKP Minor Midget's game against the undefeated York-Simcoe Express on Saturday afternoon the final score was not in the Devil's favour but the team played hard and as a unified front against the opposition. Pierce Nelson was on duty for this game and scoring both goals in front of him was Nathan Dunkley assisted by four of his teammates in Devin Morrison, Braydon Crowe, Madoka Suzuki and Joe Roy.

Friday Nov 13 (3-2 Loss to Kingston Frontenacs)
In the middle of this triple-headed week of games the Devils traveled Eastward to take on the Greater Kingston Frontenacs. Kingston, holding 1st place in the East, were stingy in their goal-minding as they only gave up two goals. The Devils well executed offensive strategy was peppered with numerous chances but it was three goals by the other side that decided this game. The tally for the Devils was Dawson Baker with help from Matthew Poole and Matt Sherwin with help from Nathan Dunkley and Dawson Baker. Evan Morrison stood strong in the pipes for this game.

Wednesday Nov 11 (4-3 Win against Central Ontario Wolves)
This game played out very much like the first two meetings against the Central Ontario Wolves but the Devils would just not let this one end in a draw. The winning goal was scored by Theo Citrullo on a seeing eye puck from the Quinte blue-liner. He was assisted by Poole and Baker. Dunkley opened the scoring from a great pass by Morrison and Grills and Sherwin would round out the scoring with help from Wheeler, Leonard, Crowe and Warren.

The Devils look to solidify their place in the ETA East as they take on the Petes of Peterborough on Wednesday at 9:15 (November 18) and the Predators of North Central on Saturday at 4:15 (November 21)  both at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre - Family Dental Centre Rink.

Vanderlaan Building Products - Major Peewee
The Vanderlaan Major Peewees picked up 2 points this weekend in their lone game. The Devils were at home to the North Central Predators Sunday afternoon. Aiden Treverton opened up the scoring for the Devil’s. The second goal came from Ben White to give the Devil’s a 2-0 lead. However the Predators battled back to tie it up at 2. Gavin Camp scored giving the Devils the lead again. The Predators were not giving up and tied it up at 3. With two minutes left in the game Daniel Michaud put one in the back of the net to give the Devil’s the lead. Ethan Fraser was between the pipes for the win. Picking up helpers were Gavin Camp, Nate Huffman, Issac Uens, and Alex Case.

Devils’s are back in action Wednesday night when they host the Oshawa Generals at the QSWC – Family dental centre Rink at 7:45.

CrossFit Belleville - Bantam
The CrossFit Belleville Bantams played in Innisfil against the Barrie Colts on Saturday.  The Bantams carried the play and outshot the Colts 5-0 in the first half of the period and it wasn't until a 5 on 3 advantage for Barrie that allowed them to get on the shot board.

A short minute later it was 1-0 for Barrie as they took advantage of 3 Minor penalties in the span of 17 seconds. The #TeamFirst and #DefenceWinsChampionships mentality was only missing for a few short shifts in the first period and with seconds remaining in the first, Barrie went up 2-0.

There were a many #PushBack shifts early in the second period that changed the momentum back to Quinte but it was short lived as the Red Devils found themselves in the penalty box and once again gave the first place Colts an opportunity to build on their lead. The Quinte Red Devils were in the game even though they were trailing 3-0 as they were keeping Barrie to minimal chances from the perimeter and were only being outshot 14-13 half way through the second period. Barrie isn’t in first place by accident and were able to capitalize on the few chances Quinte gave them and the Red Devils couldn't do the same 180 feet in the other end.

At the start of the third period Quinte had a 5 on 3 opportunity and couldn't manage to find the back of the net. It was one of those nights where good fortune, a lucky bounce and favourable call wasn’t in the mix. The Bantam Red Devils were not guilty of many mistakes, but effort, execution and the required attention to the defensive side of the puck didn’t occur each and every shift either and as a result they lost 6-1 to the best team in the ETA League. The lone Quinte goal was scored by Logan White and assists went to Bailey Matthews and Keegan Hunt and for the first time this season Brennan Bush was in net for the loss.

On Sunday the CrossFit Bantams were in Rama to take on the North Central Predators and came away with a 5-1 victory. Ethan Taylor was in net and played well to back stop the victory. The team got back to the #TeamFirst and #DefenceWinsChampionships mentality and limited North Central to very few shots each period. The Red Devils took an early lead midway through the first period and built that into a 2-0 goal differential with less than a minute to go.

The Predators would answer back early in the second but that was as close as they would get. Quinte would go on and score three answered goals to close out the road trip. Goals were scored by Daniel Panetta(2), Bailey Matthews, Michael Andrews and Zach Uens with assists going to Logan White, Cameron Supryka, Keegan Hunt, Emmett Pierce(2), Dalton Bancroft(3) and Michael Andrews(2). Please view the footage, covered by CTV Barrie, between the North Central Ontario Predators and your home town Quinte Red Devils at http://barrie.ctvnews.ca/sports.

Next up for the CrossFit Belleville Bantams will be a midweek clash with the Kingston Frontenacs on Wednesday night in Kingston (8:00pm), home game Saturday versus the North Central Predators at the Quinte Sports & Wellness Center (2:15pm) and travel to Ajax on Sunday (6:00pm).
