McInroy Maines Construction - Major Midget
The McInroy Maines Major Midget Quinte Red Devils have been a busy group recently as they took a huge two points from the Central Wolves on Tuesday October 11th and competed in the Ottawa Midget Showcase Oct 14-16.
Against the OMHA number one ranked Central Wolves the boys battled hard for a 2-1 win. Goals were scored by Brayden Forestell assisted by Matt Sherwin, with the second goal scored by Nate Boomhower assisted by Matt Sherwin. Pierce Nelson stood tall in the net all night only allowing one goal.
On the weekend at the Ottawa Showcase the Devils won the Methot division with a record of 3-0-1 beating Gloucester, Kemptville, and Timmins with the hard fought tie to Waterloo. This set up a quarter final game with the Toronto JR. Canadiens, unfortunately the Devils came up on the short end losing 3-1 in a see saw battle that organizers called the game of the tournament. Everyone on the team made huge contributions to the team over the course of the weekend with only allowing 6 goals in 5 games showing superior team defence and goaltending (3 shutouts). There were several players among the top scorers in the tournament including Nate Boomhower, Matt Sherwin, Madoka Suzuki and Zach Wheeler.
On Deck: The Devils continue the regular season schedule continues Saturday October 22 at the Deseronto Community Centre vs. York Simcoe Express 2pm start.
The Pond at Rhino Sports and Playland – Minor Midgets
The Rhino Sports Minor Midgets travelled to Aurora to play the York Simcoe Express on Saturday night with key components absent from the line up once again. One of our top forwards; Dalton Bancroft has been sidelined for every game in the ETA Season thus far and has been missed on the power-play and in a leading role as a right winger. The ever steady and calm blue liner Keegan Hunt is healing a lower body injury that has sidelined him since the second game of the young season. Keegan brings the ability to move the puck with his speed or by utilizing the outlets available to him. He is a void that can’t easily be filled in our line-up. The team also has Matt Cawker who was gaining momentum, has given the team a play-making center it has desired for a long time to complete the line-up. Matt has been sidelined with an upper body injury for the last three weeks and isn’t scheduled back for another 10 days or so. Given the key players that are out of the line-up, the players in the line-up still continue to show resilience and have a good record in the ETA.
The game on Saturday night was a winnable game regardless of being down players as this team is good enough to win without key players in the line-up no matter who isn’t dressed. With this said the York Simcoe Express would skate to a 7-4 victory, as the Express netted two empty net goals in the last minute of the game. The Red Devils played hard at times but fell short as they need to compete every shift in order to become victorious against the top teams in the ETA. The Red Devils opened the scoring on a beauty stretch pass from Emmett Pierce to a streaking Jake Campbell who made no mistake going low glove. York Simcoe would score the next three goals before the Devils answered back with a goal from Michael Andrews on a nice feed from Daniel Panetta.
The Express would pull away once again and make it a 4-2 but early in the third the Devils had some push back to give and Carden Guerin would blast one home on another sweet pass from Emmett Pierce to make it 4-3. The net minding of Brennan Bush was unbelievable at times as he continuously made key saves when the pressure was on and the Devils were unable to clear the zone. Brennan stymied the Express on a particular shift that saw the 3 on 2 turn into an amazing post to post kick save then another toe save in mid-air to keep the score closer than it really was at this juncture.
Then 12 minutes later on a strong shift by the Express they would make it 5-3 on a shot Brennan has yet to see as there were too many bodies in front screening. Just when you might think the boys were ready to pack it in the resilience was once again there as Zach Uens blasted one from the point with the net empty with six attackers crashing the net. That would be as close as they would get in Aurora on this night
The Minor Midget Red Devils were in Peterborough on Sunday to face the Pete’s. The Red Devils would open the scoring in the first period on a nice individual effort by Daniel Panetta as assists went to Graham Dickerson and Derrick Vos. The teams would skate scoreless until the second period when Graham Dickerson would make it 2-0 for the devils as the loan assist went to Michael Andrews. The third period would see the Red Devils go two men down as Nolan Seto and Daniel Panetta would leave the game with lower body injuries. The Minor Midgets would go up 3-0 on a power-play marker as Derrick Vos scored on a passing play between Emmet Pierce and Cameron Supryka.
Then Peterborough got a lucky one by the stellar Ethan Taylor to make it 3-1 with lots of time still remaining in the game. The teams would trade chances but both goalies stood tall. The Pete’s found the back of the net again on a nice individual play by a former Red Devil Elijah Brahaney. That would be as close as the Pete’s would get as time expired and the Red Devils would win 3-2.
On Deck: Next up for the Red Devils will be the Clarington Toros on Wednesday night at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Center at 9:15pm.
Free Flow Petroleum - Bantam
After the Free Flow Petroleum Major bantam Red Devils started league play with a 5-1 record they entered this weekend facing their toughest competition yet. The Red Devils faced the #3 ranked York Simcoe Express and out chanced them but failed to find the back of the net. Losing 4-0. On Sunday, the major bantams faced the Richmond Hill Coyotes and had to do so short handed after losing two players to injury this weekend, who joined two other players already on the shelf. With only 6 forwards and 4 defencemen the Red Devils fought hard to stay with the Coyotes and earn a point or two. But after coming from behind 3 times to tie the game each time they could not answer the fourth goal and fell 4-3. The goal scorers for Quinte included Connor McGregor, Jacob Vreugdenhil and Jacob Gilbert.
On Deck: Thursday Oct 20 at the QSWC at 8:15 against Peterborough, and Saturday Oct 22, at 3:45pm at the QSWC against Barrie Colts.
Vanderlaan Building Products - Minor Bantam
The Vanderlaan Minor Bantams were on the road this Saturday to take on the York Simcoe Express. The Devils found the back of the net early in the first from a goal by Lucas Culhane. Being down 4-1 midway through the third the Devils began battling back with a goal from Daniel Michaud and Ben White but it wasn't it enough. Devils ended up losing 4-3. Helpers came from Nathaniel Burrelle and Jett Butler. Ethan Fraser was solid in net despite the loss.
On Deck: Next ETA action for the minor bantams is on Saturday Oct 22 at 2:15 against the Central Wolves at the QSWC.
Foley Bus Lines- Peewee
The Foley Bus Lines Peewee Red Devils had three games in ETA action this past week. The Devils faced the Clarington Toros, York Simco Express and the Whitby Wildcats.
On Wednesday Oct 12 the Bus Liners faced the Clarington Toros at the QSWC. The Toros came out fast and furious and surprised the Devils by scoring 3 times before the Devils answered. The Devils regained composure and evened the match in the third period to end the game in a 3 to 3 tie. Scoring for the Devils was Dalyn Wakely with a pair and Cooper Matthews added a single. Assisting on the goals were Owen Gibson and Dalyn Wakely. Andrew Munro was on duty in the Devils net.
One Saturday Oct 15 the Foley Bus Lines Devils travelled to Aurora to take on the York Simco Express at St. Andrews College. The Devils scored six times in this match with a hat trick from Liam Filip and additional goals from Tevor Hoskin, Isaac Brown and Cooper Matthews. Providing the helpers were; Kendrick Webster, Connor Hunt, Dalyn Wakely, Donovan McCoy, Parker Stewart, and Cooper Matthews with a pair. Corbin Votary kept the Express off the board in the Devils cage with the shut out. Final score 6 to 0 for the Devils.
On Sunday Oct 16, the Devils hosted the Whitby Wildcats in Madoc. The Devils scored the first two goals from Cooper Matthews, and Dalyn Wakely. Assists going to Trevor Hoskin, Kendrick Webster, Connor Hunt and Liam Filip. The Wildcats came within 1 early in the 2nd period, but the Devils answered on a goal from Dalyn Wakely on feeds from Liam Filip and Owen Gibson to maintain a two goal lead going into the third. Each team would add another goal in the third as Sami Douglas-Najem scored from Dalyn Wakely and Donovan McCoy. Final score was 4 to 2 in favour of the Devils. Corbin Votary went the distance in the Devils net.
On Deck: Next action for the Devils is against the Clarington Toros this Friday night in Clarington.
Bonn Law - Minor Peewee
The Bonn law Quinte Red Devils Minor Peewee Team had a busy week at the rink.
On Wednesday the Devils were home to The Clarington Toros and the two teams skated to a 2-2 tie. Ethan Miedema scored both goals for the home team, while Vince Bellavance, Jack Dever and Duncan Schneider picked up assists in the game. Logan Vale was solid between the pipes, including a breakaway save with under 30 seconds left in the game.
On Saturday the Devils travelled to St. Andrew’s College to take on the York Simcoe Express.
In a fast paced, tight checking game, the Devils were unable to light the lamp and lost 2-0. Aidan Crowley stood tall between the pipes.
On Sunday the Devils travelled to Little Britain to take on the Central Ontario Wolves. After a scoreless first period, the Wolves jumped out to a 3 goal lead, before the Devils would respond with three of their own to tie the game at three. In a penalty filled third period, both teams would score three more times, resulting in a 6-6 tie. Scoring for the Devils were Spencer Cranley, Cal Uens, Ethan Miedema (2), Michael Dolton, and Josh Cunningham. Adding helpers on the goals were Vince Bellavance (2), Cal Uens (2), Jack Lowry, Jack Dever, Ethan Miedema, Duncan Schneider, Nick Oke and Michael Dolton. Aidan Crowley handled the goal tending duties in the game.
Madison Excavating - Major Atoms
The Madison Excavating Major Atoms took to the road this weekend to take on the York-Simcoe Express and the Richmond Hill Coyotes. Saturday had the Major Atoms joining other Quinte teams at the renowned St. Andrews College for a full day of hockey between the 2 centres. It was Quinte who hit the scoreboard first with a beauty from Liam Philip on the set up from Beckett Ewart and Jared Langdon. The two teams battled back and forth throughout the remainder of the first but it was another from Philip early in the second to give the Devils a 2-0 lead. Assisting was Kirk Stevenson and Braedyn Rogers. The Express were undaunted and scored one of their one to make it a one goal game before the end of the 2nd. The third had the teams matching speed and scoring opportunities and while the Express tied the game, Quinte once again took a one goal lead making it 3-2 in the third with a quick handed shot from Gage Butcher, assisted by Stevenson and Ty McCambridge. It was an unlucky bounce that tied the game again 3-3 later in the third as the Devils went home with one of the possible two points. Glen McInnes guarded the cage for the Devils.
Back on the road Sunday, the Major Atoms took on the Richmond Hill Coyotes. While the Devils were quick to score the first goal of the game on a shot from Brody Partridge, assisted by Thomas Kuipers and Ty Therrien, it took a bit to shake the travel and the Coyotes managed to make it a tie game mid first. Before the end of the period Langdon went unassisted to make it 2-1. In the second, the Devils came out ready to play. Quinte held up a strong defense and Dean Spry made some key saves in net. The offense took the second by storm and went to work, adding 3 more goals. Scoring in the second were Kuipers, Partridge and Stevenson, assisted by Partridge, Ben Danford, Kuipers and Philip. Quinte worked hard through the third and it was another from Kuipers, assisted by Ben Vreugdenhil to secure the dominant 6-3 win and another two points for the team.
On Deck - Wednesday, Oct. 19, the Madison Excavating Major Atoms will host the Kingston Jr. Frontenacs at 6:15pm at QSWC. On Saturday, Oct. 22, they will host the Barrie Colts in Marmora at 3:00pm
KKP - Kwik Kopy Printing - Minor Atom
The KKP minor atoms split a pair of low-scoring games over the weekend.
On Saturday in Aurora, the Devils couldn't find their skating legs after long travel and an early 10am start in dropping a 3-2 decision to the York-Simcoe Express. Owen Cassidy and Jake Sage scored for the visitors while Lennox Stewart put forth a strong effort in goal.
On Sunday, arena issues in Deseronto forced the Devils and the visiting Oshawa Jr. Generals to move their contest down the road to Napanee but the two teams put on an entertaining show nonetheless. Despite outshooting the visitors decisively, the Devils only recorded a 2-1 victory. Evan Erwin and Deke Osterhout provided the offence while Liam Boyer was solid in goal.
On Deck: The KKP Minor Atom Devils return to action Wednesday night in Kingston and complete the week in Clarington on Saturday.
Topper's Pizza- Novice
The Topper's Pizza Novice Red Devils hosted the York Simcoe Express on Saturday. The Devils came back from a 2-0 deficit late in the third to tie the score 2-2. The Devils had many chances to score, but couldn't beat a strong Express goalie. Nowl Wallace got the tie in net. Jack Foley and Ryland Cunningham scored for the Devils. Kaden Koutroulides, Kolby Craig and Owen Rivers recorded assists.
On Sunday the Devils headed west to face a strong Markham Waxers team. The Devils lost 3-1 and again had many chances to score, but just could not find the back of the net. Ryland Cunningham scored the lone goal, assisted by Owen Rivers.
Up next: The Topper's Pizza Novice Red Devils host the Peterborough Petes on Wednesday and then travel to Pickering for a road game versus the Ajax/ Pickering Raiders.
