Week 17 Report ... Toppers Pizza Novices are Oshawa Tournament Champs !!

QRD Weekly Report – Sunday January 8, 2017

Topper's Pizza- Novice

After a three week break from game action the Topper's Pizza Novice Red Devil’s traveled to Oshawa January 6th to 8th for the Oshawa Challenge hockey tournament. On Friday morning the Devils started the tourney facing the host Oshawa Generals. In a back and forth game the Devils ended up losing by a score of 4-3. The Devils defense had a strong game on the blue line. Scoring for the Devils was Jack Foley, Owen Rivers and Kaden Koutroulides. Picking up assists was Kolby Craig (2), Owen Rivers, Jack Foley, Brendan Reid and Ryland Cunningham.  Nowl Wallace was in net for the Devils.

Friday night the Devils bounced back with a 7-1 win over the Sarnia Sting. Scoring for the Devils was Jack Foley (2), Carson Lynch, Brendan Reid, Kolby Craig, Kaden Koutroulides and Owen Rivers. Picking up assists was Ryland Cunningham (3), Kolby Craig (2), Blake Leblanc, Owen Rivers, Gavin Armstrong, Tavin Macdonald, Carson Lynch, Brendan Reid and Jack Foley. Quinn Donovan was in net for the Devils.

Saturday morning the Devils faced the Richmond Hill Coyotes and played a great defensive game and winning by a score of 4-0.Nowl Wallace got the shutout in goal. Scoring for the Devils was Owen Rivers, Brendan Reid, Jack Foley and Kolby Craig. Picking up assists was Owen Rivers (2), Lucas Adamson, Ryland Cunningham, Carson Lynch and Jack Foley.

Saturday night the Devils faced the Ajax/ Pickering Raiders winning by a score of 9-1. Nowl Wallace picked up the win in goal. Scoring for the Devils was Kaden Koutroulides (2), Kolby Craig (2), Connor Fetterley (2), Owen Rivers, Brendan Reid and Ryland Cunningham. Picking up assists was Ryland Cunningham (3), Brendan Reid (2), Jack Foley (2), Kaden Koutroulides (2), Carson Lynch, Owen Rivers, Cooper Kelly, Kolby Craig, Gavin Armstrong and Rykken Ellis.

Sunday morning in the semi-finals the Devils again faced the Ajax/ Pickering Raiders in a rematch from the night before. The devils had a great game defensively and won 5-0. Scoring for the Devils was Kolby Craig, Brendan Reid, Owen Rivers, Carson Lynch and Jack Foley. Picking up assists was Jack Foley (2), Ryland Cunningham, Kaden Koutroulides and Carson Lynch. Quinn Donovan picked up the shutout in net. With the win it set-up a rematch with the Oshawa Generals.

The Devils played a great team game and won a very close game 4-3. Quinn Donovan picked up the win. Scoring for the Devils was Riley Reid, Kaden Koutroulides, Ryland Cunningham and Brendan Reid. Blake Leblanc (2), Gavin Armstrong, Connor Fetterley and Ryland Cunningham picked up assists. With the win the Devils won Gold. Great job boys, it was a great team effort all weekend by everyone. Let’s keep it rolling down the stretch!

On Deck: The Topper's Pizza Novice Red Devils  host the Oshawa Generals on Wednesday in Cobourg in a battle for third place and then travel to Peterborough on Saturday to face the ETA- East leading Petes.

Bonn Law - Minor Peewee
The Bonn Law Quinte Red Devils Minor Peewee team kicked off the New Year with three straight wins in league play.
The Devils started off 2017 with a 3-0 win in Oshawa on January 3rd. Logan Vale was sharp between the pipes, stopping every shot that he faced, to earn the shutout. Cal Uens, Ethan Quick and Spencer Cranley provided the goals for the Devils. Assisting on the goals was Sidney Wakely, Ethan Miedema, Michael Dolton, Cranley and Quick.

On Saturday, the Red Devils were home to the Central Ontario Wolves. The Devils were quick to open the scoring when Jack Dever found the back of the net in the first two minutes of the game. The Wolves fought back hard and took a 2-1 lead early in the third period. The Red Devils came alive, scoring 4 goals in the last 9 minutes of the third to win the game 5-2.  Aidan Crowley made several key saves to keep his team alive leading up to the third period. Also lighting the lamp for the Devils was Spencer Cranley, Ethan Quick, Cal Uens and Christopher Brydges with the empty netter. Assisting on the goals was Jack Lowry, Vincent Bellavance, Uens and Brydges.

On Sunday the Devils were in Clarington to take on the Toros. The Toros came out hard in the first period, but the Devils kept their foot on the gas all game long on way to a 7-1 win. Benjamin Lynch had a pair of goals in the game, while Spencer Cranley, Michael Dolton, Cal Uens, Ethan Quick and Vincent Bellavance all added singles. Chipping in with helpers on the goals was Quick (2), Dolton (2), Nick Oke (2), Bellavance, Ethan Miedema, Jack Lowry and Josh Cunningham. Logan Vale was rock solid between the pipes in the win. 
On Deck: The Devils are in Kingston next weekend to participate in the Limestone City Cup.

KKP - Minor Atom
The KKP Minor Atom's played their first league game of the new year on Saturday, skating away with a decisive 6-4 victory in Peterborough. Avery Wease, Ben Graham, Alec Asimis, Jake Sage, Rylan McCormack and Evan Erwin scored for the Devils with Erwin (2), Wease, Sage, McCormack, Sam Thompson, Owen Cassidy, Carter Chadwick, Deke Osterhout, and Ryland Harvey picking up assists.  Liam Boyer was solid while picking up the win in goal.The KKP Devils return to action with a pair of home games next weekend against Clarington and Whitby.

 

Foley Bus Lines - Peewee
On Jan. 8, the Foley Bus Lines Peewee Red Devils hosted the Clarington Toros at the Madoc Community Centre after a long Christmas Break. The Devils would come out on top in a very physical and fast game by a score of 2 to 1.

Trevor Hoskin opened the scoring in the first period on a breakaway goal on passes from Donovan McCoy and Rheydan McCoy.  Donovan McCoy would add another goal on a slap shot from the point from Connor Hunt as he won a face-off in the Toros end.  The Devils has a two-goal lead going into the 2nd period when the Toros got on the board to pull within one.  The Toros had a chance to even the game with minutes left in the 2nd as they were awarded a penalty shot, but Devils goalie Corbin Votary made the stop to keep the Devils lead going into the third. Both teams battled through a scoreless third as the Devils hung on to win the game by a score of 2 to 1.  Corbin Votary had a strong performance in the Devils cage.

On Deck: Next action for the Foley Bus Lines Peewee Red Devils is Monday Jan 9 as they hit the road to take on the Oshawa Generals at the Campus Ice Centre.  Puck drop is 7:15pm. 

Vanderlaan Building Products - Minor Bantam
The Vanderlaan Building Products Minor Bantams had three games this past week.

Wednesday January 4th, the Whitby Wildcats visited Quinte to show the Devils why they are the top team in the East. The first two periods went to the Wildcats leaving the Devils trailing 2-0 after two periods. Nathanial Burelle put Quinte on the board early in the third with Zack Brooks and Daniel Michaud assisting. With the third period winding down and the Devils down by a goal, Desi Davies found the back of the net to tie the game. Nathanial Burelle assisting. Final score 2-2. Dixon Grimes was solid between the pipes.

Saturday Jan. 7, the Devils faced off against the Peterborough Petes.  The Devils got on the scoreboard first with a goal from Lucas Culhane assisted by Nathanial Burelle. Aiden Treverton netted the second goal for the Devils with Ben White and Jett Butler assisting. Both teams were battling hard in second then Ethan Fraser caught the Petes in a line change sending a stretch pass up the open ice to Nathanial Burelle making it a 3-0 game. Late in the third Conner Brooks added another with help from Lucas Culhane to finish off the Petes 4-0. Ethan Fraser with the shutout. Issac Uens was awarded player of the game.

On Sunday Jan. 8, the Devils travelled to Ajax-Pickering where Quinte would beat the Raiders 4-2. Scoring for the Devils were Nathanial Burelle, Conner Brooks, Issac Uens, and Ethan Broek. Assists by Nathanial Burelle (2), Lucas Culhane, Conner Brooks, Ben White, Jett Butler, and Clayton Farrow. Dixon Grimes was in net for the win. Nathanial Burelle was award player of the game.

Madison Excavating - Major Atom
The Madison Excavating Major Atoms continued their undefeated streak as they secured 3 out of a possible 4 points in league play this past weekend. On Saturday, the Major Atoms hosted the Markham Waxers. The two teams went back and forth matching speed, offensive opportunities and defensive play.

The score remained 0-0 until .19 seconds remained in the first when the Waxers struck first to make it 0-1.  The Devils were undeterred and went to work in the second to

tie up the game on a beauty shot from Gage Butcher, assisted by Kirk Stevenson and Landon Wright to make it 1-1. The third period was once again filled with back and

forth action. Dean Spry made numerous key saves throughout the period to keep the game close. Again it was the Waxers who took the lead early in the third.

On the power play and the goalie out for the extra attacker, Quinte found the back of the Markham net on a bang in goal from Brody Partridge, assisted by Jared

Langdon and Beckett Ewart. With just 1 minute left in the third, the Devils continued to battle and generated scoring chances but simply ran out of time and took the 2-2 tie.

Sunday had the Devils hit the road to Whitby to take on the Wildcats.  Quinte would go on to score 3 unanswered goals, one in each period to take a decisive 3-0 win.

Hitting the scoreboard in the first was Landon Wright, assisted by Stevenson. The second period saw Langdon add one on the set up from Ty Therrien. In the final set

of the game it was Ben Danford, assisted by Butcher who secured the final goal making it a 3-0 Devils victory. Glen McInnes sealed the shut out.
On Deck: The Madison Excavating Major Atoms will head to Buffalo this upcoming weekend to compete in The Cup.


The Pond at Rhino Sports and Playland - Minor Midget
The Pond at Rhino Sports and Playland Minor Midgets were treated to an OHL Recruitment Day with the Kingston Frontenac’s on Friday. Their day started with a practice at the K-Rock Center with the Frontenac’s coaching staff running the hour long session. This was followed up by a seminar/video session, and then some open dialogue and opportunity to gain further insight into the game of hockey from an OHL viewpoint.  Following the seminar, the Red Devils were given a tour of the facility which included a dressing room tour. After the tour it was time for some much needed nutritional replenishment, followed by a game between the North Bay Battalion and the hosting Frontenac’s.

The Kingston Frontenac’s organization was first class during the entire event and their General Manager Doug Gilmour even gave three young (2004) Red Devils an unplanned tour of the dressing room on his way into the office for game day preparation. The Minor Midget Red Devils would like to thank Doug Gilmour, Paul McFarland, and Jason Supryka for making the day a successful experience. The Kingston Frontenac’s won the game 3-2; the offensive attack was led by Quinte Red Devils Alumni Nathan Dunkley who had a goal and two assists.

The Minor Midgets didn’t have much time to allow the experience to settle in as they were on the ice the next day against the Peterborough Pete’s in Peterborough. Brennan Bush was in net and stopped all but 1 of the 22 shots he faced on route to a 6-1 victory. The goals were scored by Derrick Vos, Daniel Panetta, Michael Andrews(2), Graham Dickerson and Jake Campbell while assists went to Logan White, Keegan Hunt, Dalton Bancroft(2), Cameron Supryka, Michael Andrews, Bailey Matthews and Matt Cawker(2).

On Sunday the Red Devils were in Barrie to take on the Colts and Brennan Bush was absolutely unbelievable between the pipes as he led the team to a 5-2 victory. The goals were scored by Jake Campbell(3), Michael Andrews and Keegan Hunt while assists went to Derrick Vos, Zach Uens(2), Logan White, Cameron Supryka, Carden Guerin and Emmet Pierce(2). The defensive effort by Connor Kennedy, Carden Guerin, Zach Uens, Keegan Hunt, Derrick Vos and Cameron Supryka held one the elite players in the ETA to only one goal and just a few opportunities.

On Deck: Next up for the Minor Midgets will be a Tuesday match-up against the Kingston Jr Frontenac’s in Kingston; game time is 9:00pm.
