QRD Weekly Report – Monday February 26, 2017 – Week 24

Vanderlaan Building Products - Minor Bantam
The Vanderlaan Minor Bantams faced the Central Ontario Wolves in the first round of playoffs. The Devils would start slow losing the first two games 3-0 and 2-1. The lone goal for Quinte was scored by Alex Case assisted by Ben White. 

In a must win situation the Devils would pull off a 4-1 win at home with goals coming from Nathanial Burelle, Daniel Michaud, Jett Butler and Gavin Camp.  Helpers from Blake Maracle (2), Daniel Michaud, Ben White and Issac Uens. Ethan Fraser was in net for the win and Ben White was awarded player of the game.

 

Looking to even the series the Devils came out strong getting on the board late in the second period with a goal from Aiden Treverton assisted by Jett Butler and Issac Uens. With one minute left in the third period Ben White sealed the win with an empty net goal. Dixon Grimes with the shut out and Gavin Camp was awarded player of the game.  

 

The Devils's hosted game five of the series on February 26, 2017.  Both teams battled hard and the game would end in a tie. The tie forced a ten minute sudden death overtime period. Unfortunately, the Wolves found the back of the net early in overtime for the win. 

Madison Excavating - Major Atom
The Madison Excavating Major Atoms finished up their first round of playoffs in a three game sweep of the Oshawa Generals this week. Going into game 3 with a 2-0 lead in the series, the Madison Excavating Major Atom Red Devils hosted the Oshawa Generals in Marmora on Wednesday. The Generals were fighting hard to stay alive in the series. The first period ended in a 0-0 tie and it was Oshawa who opened up the scoring in the game early in the second. The Devils responded quickly to even up the score with a goal from Landon Wright, assisted by Ben Vreugdenhil and Braedyn Rogers. Ben Danford would add another in the second on the set up from Kirk Stevenson to give the Devils the lead in the game. Brody Partridge added one more in the third to secure the win on the assist from Thomas Kuipers. Dean Spry stood tall in the Quinte net for the 3-1 win.

On Deck:  The Madison Excavating Major Atoms will begin the second round of playoffs verses York-Simcoe this upcoming Wednesday in Marmora at 7pm. The Atoms will travel to St. Andrew's College on Saturday for game 2 and will be back home in Napanee on Sunday at 4pm for game 3.

Foley Bus Lines - Peewee
Foley Bus Lines Major Peewees Take A 2-0 Lead Over Clarington In The OMHA Quarterfinals!
The Foley Bus Lines Peewee Red Devils have won back to back games in the opening of the OMHA Quarterfinals against Clarington to take a 4 pt lead in the race to 6 pts.  The Devils won 7-4 and 8-5 in the opening two games.
On Feb. 23, The Foley Bus Lines Peewees hosted the Clarington Toro’s in Game 1 of the OMHA Quarterfinals at the QSWC.  The Devils got on the board early in the first period and jumped to a 2 goal lead as Kendrick Webster lit the lamp twice.  Dalyn Wakely and Conner Hunt assisted on the Webster goals.  The Toros fought back and rallied for two of their own to end the 1st period in a 2 -2 tie.  The second period was all Devil’s as Dalyn Wakely netted a pair, Corbin roach found the net and Kendrick Webster completed his hat trick.  Assisting on the Devils goals were Kendrick Webster, Dalyn Wakely, Trevor Hoskin, Blake Ellis, Sami Douglas-Najem and Cooper Matthews.  The Toros scored once in the 2nd period to end the period with the score at 6 to 3, in favor of the Bus Liners.  Each team traded single goals in the third as Blake Ellis scored for the Devils on a pass from Sami Douglas-Najem.  Final score was 7 to 4 in favour of the Red Devils, as they took the opening game of a race to 6 pt serires.  Andrew Munro was on duty in the Devils net.

On Feb. 26, Red Devils took to the road in the 2nd game of the series against Clarington.  The Toro’s struck first in this match, but the Devils answered with two goals in the first period to take a 2 to 1 lead going into the 2nd frame.  Connor Hunt scored both of the opening goals for the Devils on assists from Liam Filip and Sami Douglas-Najem.  The Devils continued to mount offense in the 2nd period scoring three more goals and the Toro’s answered with two.  Scoring for the Devils were; Rheydan McCoy, Dalyn Wakely and Connor Hunt completed his hat trick trio.  Assisting on the Devils goals were; Donovan McCoy, Corbin Roach, Liam Filip, Isaac Brown and Dalyn Wakely.  The score was 5 to 3 heading into the third period.  The Bus Liners netted three more goals in the third, and the Toros netted a pair as Parker Stewart, Corbin Roach and Liam Filip found the back of Toro’s net.  Isaac Brown provided an assist and Connor Hunt helped with two as Hunt finished with a 5 point game.  Final score was 8 to 5 in favor of the Foley Bus Lines Red Devils as they take a 2 game lead in the series.  Corbin Votary went the distance in the Devils cage. 

The Foley Bus Lines Red Devils hope to take the series on Wednesday March 1 as they host the Toros at the QSWC.  Puck drop is scheduled for 7:45pm.

KKP - Minor Atom
The KKP minor atoms find themselves in a big hole after dropping the first two games of their first round playoff series against Whitby. On Saturday, the host Wildcats scored with a little more than a minute left to edge the Devils 3-2. Deke Osterhout and Alek Asimis scored in the loss. On Sunday in Deseronto, Whitby erased a 2-1 second period deficit in a 4-2 victory. Evan Erwin and Osterhout scored for the Devils in the losing cause. Lennox Stewart was in goal for both contests. The KKP crew will look to stave off elimination on Wednesday in Whitby. Game 4, if necessary, will be in Belleville next Saturday. Despite a valiant effort, the KKP minor atom's were eliminated from the OMHA playdowns by the Whitby Wildcats.

Facing a 2-0 series deficit, the Devils headed to Whitby on Wednesday night hoping to avoid a sweep and earned full marks in 3-1 victory. Evan Erwin led the charge with a pair while Alec Asimis added an insurance maker. Liam Boyer was strong in goal picking up the win. 
Back at home on Saturday in Belleville, the Wildcats built up a 4-0 lead midway through  the second period and held off a late Devils charge earning a series clinching 4-2 win. Holden Webster and Jake Sage scored in the loss while Boyer and Lennox Stewart split the contest in goal.

The KKP minor atom's return to action this week in ETA round-robin playoffs against Kingston and Peterborough.

Bonn Law - Minor Peewee
The Bonn Law Quinte Red Devils Minor Peewee Team have advanced to the OMHA Semi Finals, with a 7-4 win over the Peterborough Pete’s in game #4 of their quarter final series. The Devils travelled to Peterborough on Saturday, looking to close out their series with the Pete’s. The Pete’s were not going to go down without a fight, and they jumped out to a quick three goal lead early in the game. The Devils would respond late in the first period on a goal by Ethan Miedema. Benjamin Lynch scored in the first shift of the second period, and Michael Dolton added one shortly after that to tie the game at three.  Cal Uens put one past the Pete’s tender to give his team the lead for the first time in the game. Although the Pete’s would add one more goal before the end of the period, it was all Devils in the third scoring three unanswered goals. Lighting the lamp in the third period of the game for the Red Devils was Jack Dever, Ethan Quick and Spencer Cranley. Assisting on the goals in the game was Dever, Sidney Wakely, Cranley, Quick (2), Miedema, Uens, Vincent Bellavance, Jack Lowry, and Benjamin Lynch. Aidan Crowley and Logan Vale shared the goal tending duties in the game.

The Red Devils will take on the York Simcoe Express in the OMHA Semi Finals, starting on March 4th in Napanee (time tbd).
