Quinte Red Devil Minor Midgets Bring Home Bronze at OMHA Championships

With the Bronze Medal win it gives this age group two Silver Medals, a Bronze Medal and a fourth place finish in 4 of the last 5 years. The Red Devils would like to congratulate the Whitby Wildcats for their Gold Medal win and the Brampton 45’s for playing hard and leaving nothing on the ice as they take home a Silver Medal.

Game #1 – Brampton 45’s (8-3 loss)
The game that ultimately decided the team’s fate in the championship weekend was the opener against the eventual Silver Medal winners the Brampton 45’s. The Red Devils played a strong two periods but a 2:49 second stretch at the end of the second period sealed the fate of the game. Goals were scored by Bailey Matthews, Emmet Pierce and Graham Dickerson while assists went to Matt Cawker(2), Graham Dickerson, Jake Campbell and Derrick Vos. Game MVP honours went to Graham Dickerson.

Game #2 – Grey-Bruce Highlanders (3-1 Win)
The team came out with a better performance against a fast Highlanders team and would skate to a 3-1 win on the strength of a complete team effort. Ethan Taylor was in net for the win. Goals were scored by Matt Cawker, Michael Andrews and Daniel Panetta while assists went to Derrick Vos, Graham Dickerson, Daniel Panetta, Dalton Bancroft and Michael Andrews. Game MVP honours went to Ethan Taylor.

Game #3 – Ajax-Pickering Raiders (5-5 Tie)
The Ajax Pickering Raiders have been a tough team for the Red Devils over the last three seasons with Ajax winning the majority of the games. This would be yet another test for the team. Ethan Taylor was in net for the tie. Goals were scored by Emmet Pierce, Dalton Bancroft, Michael Andrews(2) and Logan White while assists went to Cameron Supryka, Jake Campbell(2), Zach Uens, Daniel Panetta(2) and Dalton Bancroft(2). Game MVP honours went to Michael Andrews.

Game #4 – Whitby Wildcats (4-0 Loss)
A must win game for the Red Devils and Brennan Bush was called upon to give his team a chance to win and he did exactly that stopping all but a few shots he faced. Whitby was just too much in the end as the Devils surrendered the loss and an eventual meeting with Ajax in the Bronze Medal Game. Game MVP honours went to Zach Uens.

Bronze Medal Game - Ajax-Pickering Raiders (4-2 Win)
Ethan Taylor would get the start in the Championship game and played very well and gave his team every opportunity to win the game. Goals were scored by Derrick Vos, Dalton Bancroft, Jake Campbell and Michael Andrews while assists went to Cameron Supryka, Daniel Panetta, Michael Andrews, Emmet Pierce and Logan White. Game MVP honours went to Dalton Bancroft.

On Deck: Next up for the Minor Midget Red Devils will be the OHL Cup that begins on March 14th. There are eight remaining unknown wild card team’s that will play; a win and you’re in wild card game for the last 4 remaining spots. The following entries are guaranteed, the 4 finalists in the GTHL playoffs, 3 teams from the Alliance, 2 teams from the USA, 2 teams from Northern Ontario, the Eastern Ontario Wild and the top four finishers at the OMHA Championship Weekend have all qualified for the OHL Cup.

Bonn Law - Minor Peewee
The Bonn Law Quinte Red Devils Minor Peewee Team are 1-1 in the OMHA Semi Final series vs The York Simcoe Express. The Red Devils earned home ice advantage for the series, and boys got off to a strong start, winning game #1 by a score of 5-3 in Napanee on Saturday. Scoring for the Devils was Ethan Miedema, Spencer Cranley, Micheal Dolton, Jack Lowry and Cal Uens. Adding assists on the goals was Jack Dever, Uens, Duncan Schneider, Ethan Quick, Nick Oke, Michael Dolton and Sidney Wakely. Aidan Crowley had a strong game in net to earn the win.


On Sunday, the Red Devils were at St. Andrew's College for game #2 in the series. Although all of the scoring was done in the second period of the game, it was The Express who skated away with a 4-1 win to tie the series. Jack Dever scored the lone goal for the Devils, assisted by Ethan Miedema. Logan Vale was solid between the pipes for his team.

On Deck:  Game three is in Marmora on Thursday night at 7:30 pm.


Madison Excavating - Major Atom
The Madison Excavating Major Atoms took a 2-1 lead in the series for the semi-final verses York-Simcoe this week. The Major Atoms played host to game one for a midweek match up in Marmora on Wednesday.  The two teams matched speed throughout the first period and ended the first with no score. It was Gage Butcher who opened up scoring in the second period on the set up from Jared Langdon. Liam Philip wasted no time in making it 2-0, assisted by Ty McCambridge and Langdon. Butcher would score again to make it 3-0 as he knocked one in assisted by Ben Danford and Carson Campbell. The Express would add one to the scoreboard before the end of the set but the Devils continued to dominate in the third adding three more in their favour. Scoring in the third were Langdon with 2 and Braedyn Rogers. Assists came from Thomas Kuipers, Rogers(2) and Landon Wright. Glen McInnes was strong in the net for Quinte and took the 6-2 victory.

Quinte took to the road on Saturday to face York-Simcoe at home at St. Andrew's College. Again the first set would end in a 0-0 tie as the two teams battled back and forth with speed and generating offence. It was YSE who would hit the board first with 2 quick goals, putting the Devils in a 2 goal deficiet, but Brody Partridge, on the assist from Ty Therrien and Danford, found the back of the Express net in the second. Quinte battled hard but it was an empty net by York-Simcoe to seal the 3-1 loss for the Devils. Dean Spry was in net for the Devils.

The Devils were back at home on Sunday in Napanee to host game 3. The first period was reminisant of the first two games and once again ended in a 0-0 tie. Therrien buried the first goal of the game on the tape to tape pass from Beckett-Ewart early in the second to give the Devils the lead. York-Simcoe answered back shortly after to tie the game 1-1 but the Devils were undeterred and went on to score another 2 goals in the second to reclaim the lead. Danford scored on the set up from Wright and Kuipers went in to score on the assist from Langdon and Philip. The Express continued to rush the net and while they snuck one through later in the third to make it a 3-2 game, it was not enough and the Devils claimed the win and a 2-1 lead in the series. Glen McInnes was between the pipes for the Devils.

On Deck: The Madison Excavating Major Atoms will be back in action on Saturday as they head up to York-Simcoe to face the Express for game 4 at 1pm.  If necessary, game 5 will be held in Marmora on Sunday at 1pm.

Foley Bus Lines - Peewee
The Foley Bus Lines Peewee Red Devils came out on top of Game #3 against the Clarington Toros to sweep the series, 3 games to 0. 

On Wednesday March 1, the Devils hosted the Clarington Toros in Game 3 at the QSWC.  The Toros came out strong and proved that they were not going to go down easy as they took a 2 to 1 lead after the first period.  The lone goal in the first by the Devils was scored by Dalyn Wakely as it was assisted by Cooper Matthews and Owen Gibson.  The Devils regained composure in the second period and mounted a 4 goal attack as Liam Filip, Rheydan McCoy, Corbin Roach and Connor Hunt lit the lamp for the Devils.  Assisting on the 2nd period goals were Dalyn Wakely, Aaron Brown, Trevor Hoskin, Blake Ellis with a pair, Connor Hunt, Cooper Matthews, and Kendrick Webster.  The Toros answered with one goal to make the score 5 to 3 going into the 3rd period.  The Devils added two more unanswered goals in the third as Liam Filip scored and Dalyn Wakely added an empty netter to finish the Toros by a score of 7 to 3.  Assisting on the third period goals were; Blake Ellis, Sami Douglas-Najem and Parker Stewart.  Andrew Munro stayed strong in the Devils cage making several key saves. 


On Deck: The Foley Bus Lines Peewee Red Devils advance to the OMHA Semifinals where they will take on the Richmond Hill Coyotes.  Schedule is yet to be determined. 

KKP - Minor Atom
The KKP minor atom's split a pair of ETA playoff games this past week.
On Tuesday in Kingston, the Devils dropped a tough 2-1 decision, despite outplaying the host Frontenacs. Jake Sage had the lone marker for Quinte while Lennox Stewart took the loss in goal.
On Sunday in Deseronto, the Devils once again outplayed their opponent but this time were rewarded for their efforts in a 4-1 over Peterborough. Sage, Deke Osterhout, Avery Wease and Carter Chadwick scored and Liam Boyer was solid in goal.
On Deck: The KKP crew return to action on Tuesday in Deseronto against Kingston before closing out the round robin Saturday in Peterborough.

Free Flow Petroleum - Major Bantam
The Free Flow Petroleum Major Bantam Quinte Red Devils finished the regular season in third place and faced the Central Ontario Wolves in the first round of the OMHA playoffs. After having tied each other four times in the regular season the playoff series promised to be a close one and it did not disappoint. the series went to a fifth and deciding game. Unfortunately the Red Devils dropped this road game and lost the series 3 games to 2.

Game 1 - 2-0 loss.

Game 2 - 5-2 win. The goal scorers were Isaac Langdon, Jaxen Boyer, Cole McGuire, Jacob Gilbert and Garrett Bird. The goals were assisted by Jacob Vreugdenhil, Cooper Rogers, Gilbert and Bird each with two and Gavyn Stevenson with one.

Game 3 - 8-1 loss. The Red Devil lone goal was scored by Cole McGuire, assisted by Cooper Rogers and Jacob Vreugdenhil.

Game 4 - 5-4 overtime win. Quinte goals were scored by Rogers, Curtis Dicks, Ben Roger, Vreugdenhil and Gilbert. Assisted by Boyer, Gilbert, Vreugdenhil, and Langdon with two.

Game 5 - 4-0 loss

The Red Devils then moved on to the ETA playoffs and started a round robin with Kingston and Clarington splitting their two games this weekend. Losing a road game in Kingston 3-2 on Friday night and winning a home game 5-3 on Saturday night.

Game 1 - 3-2 loss. Quinte goal scorers included Marshall McFarland and Connor MacGregor. assisted by Roger with two,Vreugdenhil and Nick Kirby-Palliser with one each.

Game 2 - 5-3 win. McFarland led with two goals with singles going to Vreugdenhil, Bird and Kirby-Palliser. Assisted by McGuire and Roger with two each and Bird,Dicks,Vreugdenhil and MacGregor with one each.

On Deck: The Red Devils will finish the round robin next weekend with a game in Clarington on Friday night and hosting Kingston in Marmora next Saturday at 3:00.
