The U16 Pita Pit Red Devils started the weekend off strong at the Waterloo Golden Puck tournament with a 2-0 win against the Niagara North Stars. Reece Herman had the shutout and Deke Osterhout had both of Quinte’s goals. Next up on Friday, the Red Devils matched up for the third time this season against the Hamilton Junior Bulldogs. That evening, the Red Devils took on the Sudbury Nickel Capitals. It was a tough match up with a 4-1 loss. Liam Boyer was in net and Brody Nielissen had Quinte’s lone goal. 4 of 6 Points this Week for the U13 Gillespie’s Tree Services U13 Red Devils.

On Tuesday December 6th the Peterborough Pete's rolled into town to face the Gillespie’s Tree Services U13 Red Devils. This was a highly anticipated game, as it was the first of three meetings of the year. The Petes took a 1-0 lead in the first but in the second period Andrew Laurin stuffed a rebound in on the power play. Assists went to Brechyn Aird and Lauchlan Whelan.

The Petes scored late in the second to make it 2-1.  In the third Joey Seguin had other ideas as he snapped one by the Petes goalie off a beautiful pass by Liam Marion to bring it even at 2. The Pete's would score again late in the 3rd with only 1:17 left to take a third period lead 3-2. This one wasn't over though. Ryerson Swan who was solid in net for QRD made his way to the bench with a minute left as they added the extra attacker. It was only fitting that Liam Marion was the hero of the night.  Marion returned to Quinte after playing for the Petes for one year and scored with 17 secs left.  A back-hander found the top of the net!!  Both captains Trent Clow and Lauchlan Whelan got in on the assists. Coach Durant felt it was a great tie.  "Our guys battled back and never gave up! It was a great game and that's what I expected from two good teams."

On Thursday the QRD U13s faced off against Central Ontario at the Baltimore Arena. It is probably one of those games they would like to have back as they dropped a 5-3 decision to the Wolves. Trent Clow and Coen Lowry scored, and Andrew Dewar also added his first of the year.  Assists went to Jax Martin, Maeve Aird, Liam Marion and Joey Seguin (2).

On Saturday the North Central Predators came to Baltimore to play the QRD U13s.  Quinte was looking for a bounce back game after dropping the last one to COW. Nathan Ferris got the start in net and landed a shutout.  It was a high scoring affair and ended with QRD winning 11-0! Andrew Laurin scored his first hat trick of the year while Trent Clow & Joey Seguin added 2 goals each. Single tallies went to Easton Thompson, Coen Lowry, Brechyn Aird and Andrew Dewar. Jax Martin and Ewan Dahle had the hot hands setting up the goals with 4 assists each. Other assists went to Whalen (2), Thompson (2), Lowry, Wright, B.  Aird, Clow, and Dewar.

ON DECK: The Gillespie’s Tree Services U13 Red Devils have games against Kingston, Ajax and Oshawa before the Christmas break begins. On the flip side, the QRD U13 staff and their families are giving back this Christmas. Coach Carey Durant believes that hockey is just the right vehicle to help assist other families in need: "I asked our parent group what they thought about giving back to our community. Not to my surprise, Shannon Martin and Alison Wright corralled all the families on our team to support The Three Oaks Women Shelter. I think it is really a teachable moment for our players. To give back to our community, that is what it's all about. Teaching our players life skills is just as important as what happens at the rink. I am very proud of the staff, players, and our families. Christmas is a special time for kids and families. We just wanted to give back and help to make that day special for mothers and kids in need."

The Madison Excavating U11 Quinte Red Devils had a hugely successful weekend with two big wins.

On Saturday, QRD headed to Whitby for a tilt against the Wildcats. Everett Brown opened up the scoring in the first period, off a great feed from Kade Whelan. Whelan extended the lead late in the second period with a goal of his own. The third period would see a great deal of action, but the score remained at 2-0 for the Devils when the final buzzer sounded. In net, Hayden Tripp earned his third shutout of the season.

On Sunday, the Madison Excavating U11 Quinte Red Devils hosted the Ajax-Pickering Raiders in Marmora. It was seven minutes into the first period when Dylan Chalk opened the scoring for QRD, giving them a 1-0 lead, which they carried into the second. The game got heated in the second, when the Raiders scored their first goal, tying things up at one. Coulter Watson answered for the Devils just three minutes later, regaining Quinte’s lead. The third period began with a score of 2-1 for Quinte, and would see excellent teamwork from the Devils, allowing them to continue to prevail over the Raiders. Jack Seeney scored five minutes into the third, with a bomb from the point, to give the Devils a 3-1 lead. With under two minutes left in the game, Chalk notched his second of the game with an empty net goal. Hayden Tripp made some timely saves to help to pick up the win.

Coach’s Corner with Head Coach Andrew Brown: “It was a really fun weekend for the kids and their development. Everything we practiced leading up to the weekend the kids implemented and experimented with. We look to roll into this weekend at full capacity and intensity.”

ON DECK: The Madison Excavating U11 Quinte Red Devils will travel to Barrie to take on the Jr. Colts this Saturday, December 17th.
