The Bonn Law Quinte Red Devils hold successful Pink in the Rink fundraiser
The Bonn Law Quinte Red Devils Major Peewee team held a very successful Pink in the Rink fundraiser on Saturday, Jan 13th.

The team was able to raise an astonishing $8463.00 that day and with a few more donations trickling in after the event, the tally ended at $8512.00.  This far exceeded the team’s original goal of $2500.00.  All of the money raised was donated to the Canadian Cancer Society to continue the fight against breast cancer.  The cause held special meaning to the team as two of our very own Moms have been affected by this terrible disease with one still undergoing treatment.  The two Moms were honored on the ice prior to the game and were presented with flowers and hugs from their sons.

The event capped off the team’s “good deeds” efforts which saw the boys challenge each other to 30 days of kindness.  Although they had originally decided it was going to be a 30 day challenge, their good deeds ended up extending well beyond the 30 days.  The “challenge” seemed to be contagious as they became excited about the “next good deed” they were going to do.  Other good deeds they completed included serving dinner in a retirement home, collecting warm winter clothing to donate to a clothing drive, shoveling driveways, mentoring younger hockey teams, donating to a toy drive, purchasing turkey vouchers for the homeless, helping people return their carts at grocery stores and much more!

The team’s efforts landed them a spot in the Semi Finals of the Chevrolet Good deeds cup contest which was announced during the World Junior Gold medal game.  The contest, sponsored by Chevrolet Canada, is a nationwide initiative that encourages Peewee aged hockey players to give back to their communities.

The team, by being named Semi-finalists, has already won $2000 for their charity, which they selected as the Ronald McDonald House as this too holds special meaning.  However, they aren’t done yet and could win up to $15,000 for their charity!

Please vote for the team to get them into the finals of the Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup.  To vote, go to www.chevrolethockey.com and watch their video.  Each view on the video counts as a vote.

Finally, we would like to acknowledge everyone who attended the event on Saturday as well as all those who donated or contributed in any way to the success of our Pink in the rink.  We would especially like to thank Becky Brant of Threadworks Custom Embroidery, who donated all of our pink jerseys and the Central Ontario Wolves, who not only made a team donation, but showed their support by wearing pink attire and taping their sticks pink.  As a team, we were truly overwhelmed by the support of our event.  Words could never adequately describe the love that was felt in the rink that day.  Thank you.
