In an exciting overtime win, the Devils sealed the 3-2 victory over the host and 2017 champions Markham Waxers!!
Tournament Details...
Game one Friday was a 3-2 win for Quinte against the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Game two Friday was a match up against the Burlington Eagles, the Devils came out on top with a score of 5-2.
Saturday had the Devils face the Whitby Wildcats for game three. The Devils took their third win with a score of 4-3.
The second game of the day Saturday, the fourth of the tournament, was against last year's winner and host team, the Markham Waxers. The game was a close one, with both teams battling back and forth of the offence and defence. In the end, it was the Waxers who came out the winners to the 2-1 game final. With 3 wins, the Devils were set up to face them again and redeem themselves in the gold medal game on Sunday.
The Gold Medal game on Sunday had the Devils ready to battle. It was Quinte who struck first with a goal in the first from Liam Philip, assisted by Landon Wright. The first period would end in a 1-0 Devils lead. Early in the second set Jared Langdon would go in unassisted to give Quinte a 2-0 lead in the game. Before the end of the second, Markham would manage to even up the score. The third period would start and end with a 2-2 tie forcing a sudden death overtime. Mike McIvor would make many saves in the Quinte net throughout the game. One and a half minutes into overtime, Thomas Kuipers would set up Ben Vreugdenhil on the point to take a shot on net that was tipped into the Markham net by Gage Butcher and give the Quinte Red Devils the victory. Making them the 2018 OMHA Champions!!!
