Early Season Rust at the Titans Prospects Tourney
The QRD Minor Midgets playing Thursday night at the Toronto Titans Prospects Tournament got off to a sluggish start in their first game action of the season. The Devils were down 2-0 before their skates were even wet to the North York Rangers but battled back to tie things only to fall behind once more until finally turning it on to defeat the Rangers with three unanswered in the third 5-3.

Game two Friday morning versus the Buffalo Regals was a much better start that produced a tighter scoreless first. The Devils then found the net for 2 in the second and 3 more in the third to close out the contest with a 5-0 victory. The Lambton Jr. Sting were on the docket for Friday night’s game and after a tied first period of 1-1, the QRD boys seemed to get their legs back and went on to a six goal barrage in the second to cruise to a 7-1 game 3 win. Game four took on a little USA flavour as the Devils took on the Pittsburgh Predators in their final round robin match Saturday morning. The Canadian boys controlled the game from start to finish to take a commanding 5-0 victory. You would think that finishing 4-0 in the round robin and securing the 2nd seed of 16 in the playoff round would give you a favourable match up but not so in the very competitive Minor Midget loop and the Devils drew the Mississauga Reps in playoff action Saturday night. This contest started out great with the home town boys taking a 2-0 first period lead until sloppy play in the second and third lead to a 6-3 deficit for the Devils. With the goalie pulled, the Devils managed to score 3 goals in a feverish final two minutes of the third frame to tie the game at 6 pushing the contest to overtime where the locals unfortunately fell short losing 7-6 sending us home down the 401 earlier than hoped. Next action…on the road for the ETA season opener versus the Ajax/Pickering Raiders and then home to the Richmond Hill Coyotes.
