On
Saturday the Stampkrete QRD U12’s opened their playoffs with an impressive win
over the visiting Whitby Wildcats. Whitby opened the scoring in the 1st
with a power play goal, but Quinte would answer back with a power play goal of
their own (Coen Lowry) before the end of the period.
In the 2nd period it was all Quinte, as Lauchlan Whelan, Brechyn Aird, and Ewan Dahle would score to give QRD a 4-1 lead. In the 3rd, Whitby would score twice to get within distance, but Easton Thompson would then strike on a nice breakaway goal to increase the QRD lead to 5-3. Aird would “seal the deal” as he would add an empty net goal to give Quinte the 6-3 win. Ryerson Swan got the win in net, making some timely saves throughout the game!
Assisting on the goals were Trent Clow, Ben Hunt, Dawson Chalk, Maeve Aird x2, Whelan, Dahle, and Drew Wright.
On Sunday, the Stampkrete QRD U12’s travelled to St. Andrew’s College to take on the red hot York-Simcoe Express. Lauchlan Whelan opened the scoring for Quinte, with a beauty end-to-end solo rush half way through the 1st period. After a back and forth battle, York-Simcoe would finally get one past Nathan Ferriss with just under 7 minutes left in the game. With regulation time ending in a draw, both teams would continue to battle throughout a 10 minute sudden death overtime period. Quinte would have to settle with a 1-1 tie, finishing their weekend with a crucial 3 points in the standings. Nathan Ferriss got the tie in net for QRD, making some great saves in this closely fought contest.
