WEEKLY REPORT - OCT. 18/21
An early kickoff to the weekend, had the U14 Free Flow Petroleum Devils travelling to Norwood on Thursday for the first game of the Boston Pizza Icefest tournament. They faced off against the Nickel City Sons, who surprised the Devils by marking the first goal of the game late in the first. No goals to be reported in the second, forced action into the third frame when Quinte's J.C. Lemieux (Jacob Moore) made the score 1-1. With no further goals during regular play, the suspense proceeded into sudden death action. Lemieux (Max Dubé) scored his second of the night, earning the Devils' victory. Cohen Bedore held strong in net for the 2-1 win.




Friday play: Game two of the tournament had the U14s meet up with the Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs. Although a quiet start to the game, Quinte showed their dominance by potting three goals within a few minutes. Scoring was: Jacob Campbell (Matthew Airhart), Lemieux x2 (Ryan Babbs and Liam Campbell). The opponent snuck one by the U14s to split up the scoring spree. Katste Brant in net for the 7-1 win. Quinte's remaining goals scored by Moore (unassisted) and Dubé with a hat trick (assists to Moore and Lemieux). 

Later on Friday, Bedore was back in net with another strong game for the U14s. The physical play proved not as a deterrent to the U14's, as they pulled off a 7-1 victory over the Chatham-Kent Cyclones. Scoring for U14s during Friday's evening action:  Dubé (Lemieux), Moore (Jack Foley and Airhart), Dubé (J. Campbell), L. Campbell (Lemieux and Graydon Walst), Airhart (Rhett Colson and Dube), J. Campbell (L. Campbell), Dube (Noah Lesser). 

Saturday play: Another early start to the weekend, the U14s faced-off against the Upper Canada Cyclones. Offering no opportunities for relaxation, the fans were in for an intense game. With each goal of the first period, the opponent spoke back; taking this game into the second frame in a 3-3 tie. First period goals were earned by: Tavin MacDonald x2 (Kaden Koutroulides and Foley), Dubé (MacDonald and Lemieux). No change to the scoreboard during the second. The suspense continued into the final frame, whereby the opponent scored once more, forcing the U14s and Katste Brant to take the first loss (4-3) of the weekend.

Quarter-final action saw the U14s matched up against the Oshawa Generals. Not until mid-second period did the game see its first goal, scored by Foley (Airhart) at 8:06. Responding shortly there after, Oshawa stole the lead, with two quick ones. Early in the third, Dubé from Lemieux evened out the game and Airhart (Lemieux) gave the U14s the upper hand. The back-and-forth play continued as Oshawa forced the game into overtime play, only seconds before the buzzer. Bedore in net, the U14s earned the victory during sudden-death play when Lemieux (Dubé) hit the twine. A 3-2 victory! 

On Sunday, the U14s encountered the host team, Peterborough, in a semi-final match-up. Quinte played a strong three periods, with the game at 1-1 entering the third. In the end it was a 5-2 loss, including two empty net goals. Lemieux (Dubé) and Foley (Lemieux and Airhart) scored for Quinte. 

Next game action: a home and away matchup against the Central Ontario Wolves. The U14s travel to Lindsay on Saturday, followed by hosting them at 12:30pm, on Sunday, at the Wellness Centre in Belleville.
