Gillespies Tree Service QRD U13’s Weekly Report - Oct 23, 2022
Gillespie's Tree Service QRD U13s Add 2 points in Regular Season and then head north to take on the Barrie Peewee Challenge Cup!!


The Gillespies Tree Service QRD U13’s started the week by hosting the Central Ontario Wolves. Quinte came out strong in the first period with Joey Seguin getting QRD started, assisted by (Liam Marion). Trent Clow would follow up with a goal shortly after to put them up by two early in the game, Marion would add his second assist of the contest. Near the end of the opening period Liam Marion would score to get his third point of the game to put the Red Devils up 3-0, Trent Clow would get the apple on the play. Andrew Laurin would open up the second period with a goal of his own, Mauve Aird with the helper, Lauchlan Whelan and Coen Lowry would open up the floodgates to make it 6-0 through two periods of play, Easton Thompson and Andrew Dewar helping out on the goals. Jax Martin would get the all important seventh goal of the game with assists from Coen Lowry and Spencer Harold. Nathan Ferriss would play unreal to earn the win in net. Final Score 7-1.


The QRD U13’s headed up to Barrie Friday for the Peewee Challenge Cup looking to take home gold. In game one Quinte went up against the Markham Waxers where QRD would fall behind 1-0 halfway through the opening frame. The Red Devils would soon come alive as Joey Seguin would open the scoring for QRD getting his first of two in the contest assisted by (Trent Clow, Liam Marion). Going into the second period the game would be dead locked at 1 a piece until Joey Seguin pots his second of the game to give Quinte the lead, assisted by (Trent Clow, Brechyn Aird). Andrew Laurin and Trent Clow would both add insurance goals for the Red Devils making it a 4-1 game heading into the third, assists going to (Lauchlan Whelan, Liam Marion). Shortly into the third Trent Clow would find the back of the net for his second of the game to put Quinte up 5-1 with assists being awarded to (JoeySeguin, Liam Marion). Lauchlan Whelan would put the finishing touches on an offensive onslaught to make it a final score of 6-1 to open up the tournament. Ryerson Swan picking up the win in the cage.


The Red Devils were feeling good heading into game two of the tournament going up against the Vaughan Kings of the GTHL. Quinte would come out strongly, possessing some key scoring opportunities but could not put one past the Kings netminder. Vaughan would open up the scoring late in the first period which would end up being the game winning goal as the Red Devils could not find the back of the net as Quinte would go on to lose 2-0. Great game played by Nathan Ferriss.

QRD entered must-win territory heading into Saturday's game against the Mississauga Reps and they did not disappoint. Quinte would play a hard checking game against a relentless Reps club. The game would stay knotted at 0’s through the first frame until early into the second when Andrew Laurin would get on the board first with a beauty assists from(Lauchlan Whelan, Liam Marion). The Red Devils would come right back down the ice and make this a 2-0 game with the goal coming from Trent Clow assisted by (Ewan Dahle,Spencer Harold). The Reps would not go away as they would cut the lead in half after Quinte’s second marker. Trent Clow would add his second of the game to give QRD some breathing room and that was enough to put away the Reps, assisted by (Liam Marion, Drew Wright). Ryerson Swan played great to earn the win. Final score 3-2.

Quinte would enter their fourth game of the tournament needing a win to secure a spot in the Quarter finals on Sunday morning. The Red Devils took on the Grey Bruce Highlanders, starting off strong getting the opening goal credited to Trent Clow assisted by (Joey Seguin).  The Highlanders would claw back and take the lead scoring two goals in under 30 seconds apart from each other. That would not discourage the Red Devils as they would tie the gameup late in the first thanks to Brechyn Aird, helper from (Liam Marion). After the first QRD would not look back, adding four in the second to make it 6-2 heading into the final frame. Brechyn Aird would find the back the net for his second of the game with Liam Marion adding one of his own, Jax Martin would get in on the second period barrage as would Joey Seguin to make it 6-2 after 2, (Andrew Laurin, Ryder Hooey, Andrew Dewar and Lauchlan Whelan). Coen Lowry (Ewan Dahle, Spencer Harold) would add the final goal for Quinte in a7-3 win over Grey Bruce to secure a spot in the quarter finals. Nathan Ferriss would pick upthe W.


The Quinte Red Devils took on the Whitby Wildcats in the quarter final game. Whitby would open up the scoring to make it 1-0 early on into the first and that sparked the Red Devils as they would score two goals a minute apart from each other to give Quinte a 2-1 lead, goals scored by Trent Clow and Lauchlan Whelan, assisted by (Liam Marion, Joey Seguin, Easton Thompson and Andrew Laurin). Just minutes after the Wildcats would tie the game back up making it 2-2 going into the second. Trent Clow would give Quinte a
3-2 lead, then QRD would get into some penalty trouble which ultimately decided their fate as Whitby would add two power play goals to knock Quinte out of the tournament.
