Quinte Red Devils Weekly Report – Sunday September 27, 2015

Madison Excavating - Minor Atom
The Madison Excavating Minor Atom Red Devils opened their regular season on the road this weekend. On Saturday, the Devils were north bound traveling to Barrie to face the fast paced Colts. The Colts were relentless from start to finish and unfortunately, the Devils were left scoreless. Succumbing to a 5-0 loss.

On Sunday, the determined and refocused Minor Atoms, faced the skilled and highly touted York Simcoe Express in Aurora. The Devils skated and passed their way to their first regular season win.  With a hard working team effort and an outstanding showing between the pipes by Glen McInnes, the Devils kept the Express off the scoreboard.  Quinte's lone bar-down goal came late in the second from Nolan Donnelly after taking the set up from Liam Philip and Brody Partridge.  The Minor Atoms continue their regular season schedule in Bowmanville facing the Clarington Toros on Friday at 6pm and will host the Markham Waxers for their home opener at RCAF on Sunday at 3pm.

Bonn Law - Atom
The Bonn Law Quinte Red Devils Major Atom Team split a pair of games in league play this weekend. On Saturday, the Devils were in Whitby to take in the Wildcats. The two teams battled hard throughout the game, exchanging chances along the way. Whitby carried a one goal lead until late in the third period, when they scored on a breakaway to make it 2-0, and added an empty netter to win the Game 3-0. Jacob Brown was sharp between the pipes for the Devils.

On Sunday, the Red Devils played host to the Oshawa Generals and were quick to take the lead when Spencer Cranley scored in the first 14 seconds of the game. The Devils carried the play for the majority of the game and skated to a 6-3 win. Cranley finished the game with a hat trick, while Joey Coates scored a pair, and Cal Uens added a single. Assisting on the goals was Uens (2), Ben Lynch (2), Jack Dever, Ben Danford, Ethan Quick, Vincent Bellavance, Clayton Rose and Tyson Carr. Tucker McKichan earned the win in net for the Devils.

Foley Bus Lines - Minor Peewees

The Foley Bus Lines Minor Peewees travelled north this past weekend to play a two game set against the North Central Predators and the Barrie Colts.  The Minor Peewee Devils came out of the northern road trip with two wins by defeating the Colts 6-0 and the Predators 7-1.

On Saturday Sept 26, the Foley Bus Liners played a well rounded game with all pistons firing as the Devils mounted a 6 to 0 routing of the Colts. Scoring for the Devils were; Connor Hunt, Corbin Roach with a pair, Kendrick Webster with two, and Liam Filip.  Providing the helpers on the Devils goals were Owen Gibson, Corbin Roach with two, Liam Filip, Kendrick Webster, Cooper Matthews and Donovan McCoy.  Corbin Votary was perfect in the Devils cage recording the shut out.
On Sunday Sept 27, The Devils rolled into Rama to tackle the North Central Predators.  The Devils dominated with a 7 to 1 victory over the Preds.  The seven Devil goals came from; Connor Hunt with two, Trevor Hoskin, Isaac Brown, Kendrick Webster, Corbin Roach and Donovan McCoy.  Assisting on the goals were; Corbin Roach with a pair, Trevor Hoskin with two, Blake Ellis with a trio, Phoenix Smith, Cooper Matthews Donovan McCoy and Kendrick Webster.  Andrew Munro was solid in the Devils net to pick up the win.
Next Action for the Foley Bus Lines Minor Peewee Devils is Oct 2 to Oct 4 as the Devils travel to Toronto to take part in the Toronto Jr Canadiens Cup Tournament.

Free Flow Petroleum - Minor Bantam
The Free Flow Petroleum Minor Bantam Quinte Red Devils hit the ice with an impressive (5-1-1) showing at the prestigious Toronto Red Wings Early Bird Tournament recently.  They then opened their 2015-2016 regular season right where they left off last season (atop the ETA).  Peterborough was the first to fall, in a 3-1 loss to Quinte on September 19; Nick McGowan was on duty in net.  On September 26, the team went on to win their second straight of the season, against the Whitby Wildcats, by a score of 7-2; Isaac Langdon picked up the hat-trick, with Ethan MacDonnell guarding the net.  Next up is a busy 3-game week that will bring the squad to Markham, Barrie and Orillia.

Crossfit Belleville – Bantams
The CrossFit Bantams were in action against the Markham Waxers on Saturday night and the #TeamFirst mentality message was driven home all week at team practices. The big question would be…..could it translate onto the ice in both games for a full 50 minutes?

The forward core of Jake Campbell, Bailey Matthews and Emmet Pierce kept the Waxers hemmed in their own zone then as the lines changed Michael Andrews, Daniel Panetta and Dalton Bancroft kept the pressure on creating offensive opportunities but were unable to capitalize. The CrossFit Bantams entire forward groupings played a strong defensive zone strategy, while Logan White and Ryan Loiselle continuously kept the Waxers guessing and cleared the zone just like the coach illustrated in practice.

The Red Devils controlled the game from the opening face-off with the #TeamFirst approach and led the game 3-0 after the first two periods as Brennan Bush had stopped every shot he had faced. Heading into the third period the Bantams found themselves in some penalty trouble and were allowing the Waxers to carry the play for the first time in the game. There were too many giveaways creating opportunities for the Waxers but a quick reminder and regroup session by the coaching staff on the bench suddenly inspired the giveaways to be stifled.

The CrossFit Bantams won 4-1 on a strong #TeamFirst approach and travelled to Lindsay to play the Central Ontario Wolves on Sunday. The message was given to the boys and once again received as the CrossFit Bantams beat the Central Ontario Wolves 5-2. The game was played for the most part in the Wolves end with Ethan Taylor stopping all but two of the shots that came his way.

A familiar thought was evident as the #TeamFirst concept was received by the boys and theoverall Team Defence played another key role in their third victory in this young season.  It's a busy week as they travel to Oshawa on Wednesday, play host to Kingston on Thursday back at the QSWC, then travel to Clarington and Whitby on the weekend.

KKP - Kwik Kopy Printing - Minor Midgets
One week after their season and home opener the Gentlemen Devils traveled to the Legends Arena to take on ETA East rivals the Oshawa Minor Generals. It was a four goal second period that proved too much for the Gens and the night ended with a second notch in the W column for the Devils.

With Evan Morrison in net the KKP Minor Midgets controlled much of the play in the first. At the halfway mark in the first it was Nate Boomhower that drew first blood on the battlefield with help from Malcolm Warren and Devin Morrison. Oshawa would tie the game with three minutes remaining in the first frame but it was the second period's excess that would prove the difference in the game. Madoka Suzuki, with help from Malcolm once more, would start the second and go on to add another goal, unassisted this time, with 8 seconds left in the period. Also scoring in the second was Boomer with his second on a Joe Roy (pictured above) helper and Dawson Baker scored with a Suzuki helper to fill out the four goal second. Oshawa would take one back in the mid-third but the Devils restored the four goal margin on a Matt Sherwin goal from a play-maker's pass by Nathan Dunkley. Evan Morrison was solid in net for the Devils and help his team to their second win in as many tries.

The Devils end their month playing host to the 1-0-0 Wolves of Central Ontario on the 30th at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre - Family Dental Centre rink. Let's hear it #DevilNation... Go Devils Go!
