Here is the weekly report for week 1...
KKP- Major Atom
The KKP Quinte Red Devils Major Atoms travelled to London over the weekend to play in the Drew Doughty Invitational Tournament, hosted by the London Jr Knights.
On Friday morning the Red Devils faced off against the Long Island Gulls. The Red Devils started off slowing, getting down 4-0 before making a game of it, but in the end lost 5-3. Scoring for the Red Devils was Jacob Moore and Connor Fetterley (2). Picking up assists were Connor Fetterley, Carson Lynch, Riley Reid, Tavin Macdonald and Rykken Ellis (2).
Friday afternoon the Red Devils played the Buffalo Jr Sabres. The Red Devils came out flying and eventually took the lead 1-0 on a goal by Connor Fetterley and assisted by Kaden Koutroulides and Ryan Babbs. The Red Devils were unable to find the back of the net again, despite many good chances. The Jr Sabres scored late in the third period to tie the game and then again with 15 seconds to beat the Red Devils 2-1.
On Saturday afternoon the Red Devils faced off against the North Central Predators. The Red Devils came out flying and were up 6-2 at one point, before the Predators responded with 5 unanswered goals including the winner with a minute remaining; the Red Devils lost 7-6. Scoring for the Red Devils were Owen Rivers (2), Kaden Koutroulides, Ryland Cunningham, Jack Foley and Jacob Moore. Picking up helpers were Jacob Moore (2), Owen Rivers, Carson Lynch, Rykken Ellis (2), Jack Foley, Cooper Kelly, Blake Leblanc and Kaden Koutroulides.
In the final game of the tournament on Saturday afternoon the Red Devils played the Pittsburgh Jr Penguins. The Red Devils battled to back from slow start to make the game 5-4 late in the third before losing 6-4. Scoring for the Red Devils were Ryland Cunningham, Jack Foley, Koen Deveaux-Smith and Kaden Koutroulides. Picking up assists were Kolby Craig (2), Tavin Macdonald and Jacob Moore.
Bonn Law- Minor Bantam
The Bonn Law Minor Bantams are off to a great start going 4-0 in the first two weeks of league play, leading the East division with 8 points. Kicking off their winning streak was their home opener against the nearby Kingston Frontenacs. Liam Murphy made his debut as a Quinte Red Devil in net getting the 7-3 win. Offense came from all 9 forwards as follows: Goals by Justin Murdoch (also his first as a Devil!!), Spencer Cranley (2), Ethan Miedema, Jack Dever (2) and Cal Uens. Helpers from Cal Uens, Aiden Haller-Brady (2), Christopher Brown, Michael Dolton, Justin Murdoch, Christopher Brydges (2), Sid Wakely, Ethan Miedema (2), Ethan Quick and Spencer Cranley.
Their first road game was a hard fought battle against last year’s first place team in the East division, Central Ontario Wolves. In a very physical game, the boys worked through penalties to secure a 2-1 victory, outshooting their opponents by an impressive margin. Goals from Cal Uens and Ethan Miedema with assists from Christopher Brydges and Tyson Carr. Aidan Crowley picked up the win in net.
Game three saw the boys back on home ice over their first West opponent, Ajax Pickering Raiders. Although the boys got off to a very slow start, they dug deep to secure the win. Christopher Brydges opened scoring from the point for QRD on a pass from Ethan Miedema. Second period goals from Ethan Quick and Christopher Brown helped establish the lead heading into the third period. Josh Cunningham scored from the point late in the third and Christopher Brydges finished it off with an empty net goal to secure the 5-3 win. Helpers to Dever, Murdoch, Dolton and Uens. Liam Murphy was between the pipes for the Devils.
Game four was a 5-0 win over Whitby Wildcats. Aidan Crowley was credited with the shut out. The Bonn Law Minor Bantams were not only a physical threat but solid both defensively and offensively in this convincing win. Ethan Miedema opened scoring in the second period with 2 powerplay goals. Assists to Cal Uens (2) and Duncan Schneider. Tyson Carr and Ben Davy netted goals from the point with assists to Spencer Cranley and Miedema. Ethan Quick banged home the 5th goal with assist to Carr and Miedema.
Great start to the season Bonn Law boys!! The Devils look to keep their streak alive this weekend with games versus Clarington and Peterborough.
Free Flow Petroleum- Minor Midget
Two games this weekend for the Free Flow Minor Midgets ...
The Quinte Minor Midgets played the Ajax Pickering Raiders on Saturday evening in Trenton losing 3-1. Jett Butler scored the lone Quinte goal with an assist from Daniel Michaud. Ethan Fraser played net. On Sunday the Devils travelled to St Andrews College to face off against the York Simcoe Express. Final score was 4-1 for YSE. Goal scored by Nathaniel Burrelle with assist by Zack Brooks. Ethan Fraser has a solid game as goalie.
On deck the minor midgets will host the Kingston Jr Frontenac’s this Wednesday at Quinte Sport and Wellness Centre.
Madison Excavating- Major Peewee
The Madison Excavating Peewees hit the ice in league play again this weekend with a busy 3 game schedule. The Devils came out on top with 3 strong wins.
After a tough first game of the season loss to Clarington, the Devils were ready for a hockey packed weekend as they were back on the road to face the Petes in Peterborough this past Friday night. The Petes took an early lead but it would be Landon Wright on the pass from Braedyn Rogers to tie up the game in the first. The Petes would once again take the lead in the game but Gage Butcher would answer back with an unassisted shorthanded goal before the end of the first. Thomas Kuipers, also shorthanded, scored early in the second to give the Devils the lead. Jared Langdon, assisted by Caleb Martin and Carson Campbell would add another in the second to make it 4-2. Rogers would make it 5-2 in the third on the pass from Deacon Ellis. Dean Spry took the win between the pipes.
The Devils would go up the road to Rama to take on the North Central Predators on Saturday. Once again the Devils came out with the win. A quiet first period would open up to a goal filled second as Beckett Ewart opened up the scoring on the set up from Brody Partridge. Shortly after Kuipers would add another for the Quinte, assisted by Partridge and Martin. Ty Therrien would get his first of the second, assisted by Ewart and Langdon before the end of the second. The Predators would battle to score 2 in the third but it would not be enough as Kuipers added an empty netter in the dying seconds of the third to take the 4-2 victory. Mike McIvor was in net.
Sunday had the Devils face off against the Colts in Barrie to round up their road trip weekend. Quinte scored a few quick goals in the first to take an early lead. Ewart, assisted by Langdon and Therrien hit the scoreboard first, followed soon after by Partridge on the set up from Ben Vreugdenhil and Ewart. Kuipers would add 2 more in the game, with assists from Vreugdenhil, Langdon and Partridge(2) to give the Devils the 4-1 win. Spry was in net for the win.
On Deck; The Madison Excavating Peewees will be back in action on Saturday in Kingston to take on the Jr. Fronts at 12:45 and will host their home opener on the Yardmen on Sunday at 2pm versus the Ajax-Pickering Raiders.
Walsh Fencing- Novice
The A.Walsh Fencing Novice team traveled by bus on Saturday for an afternoon game against the Barrie Colts.
Barrie opened the scoring in the first minute of the game on a partial breakaway goal, taking the lead 1-0.
QRD novice team would tie the game up late in the first period and the first period ended in a 1-1 tie. It was a tight checking game and neither team would score in the 2nd period.
Barrie took the lead on a go ahead goal 5 minutes into third and added a late goal to win the game 3-1 and hand QRD novice team their first loss in ETA league action.

Foley Bus Lines- Major Bantam
On Friday the Major Bantams travelled to Clarington to take on the Toros for the second game of regular season action. It was all Devils from the puck drop as they went on to win 5-0.
Sunday was another travel day as the Devils visited the Petes in Peterborough. The Petes found the back of the net first midway through the second. The Devils would answer back with one of their own in the second and then go on to score 2 more times in the third to take a 3 – 1 win.
The QRD Bantams hit the road again next weekend when they travel to Barrie on the 29th and North Central on the 30th.
McInroy Maines- Major Midget
McInroy Maines Major Midgets, up and running for the 2018-19 Season!
Major Midget AAA Hockey is alive and well in the Quinte Region once again for the 18-19 Hockey Season. Team staff have solidified a roster of 19 up and coming prospects to continue the next chapter of the QRD Major Midget AAA program.
The team started the season in the Toronto Titans Midget Early Bird Tournament Sept 20-23 weekend going 1-3 seeing some fierce competition. In a division playing the Mississagua Reps and Rebels, Waterloo Wolves and Pittsburgh Vengeance. The lone win came against Pittsburgh 3-2. The three losses came to the Reps 3-0, Waterloo 2-1, and Rebels 5-0. It was indeed a very competitive tournament showing our boys what they have to do to reach a new level.
