Here is the week 2 report...
Madison Excavating- Major Peewee
The Madison Excavating Peewees were 1 and 1 this weekend on the road Saturday and their home opener at the Yardmen this past Sunday.
The Devils travelled to Kingston on Saturday and supported the Jr. Frontenacs efforts with supporting their local food bank. Quinte players donated items to the cause and were
welcomed by the Fronts with a hospitality room and in game recognition. The Devils came out fast and upset the Frontenacs by a 4-1 score. It was Landon Wright who opened up
the scoring for Quinte in the first on the pass from Carson Campbell. Liam Philip would add a second in the first, with assists from Thomas Kuipers and Gage Butcher. The second
period saw Brody Partridge tack one onto the scoreboard on the set up from Philip and Butcher. Beckett Ewart would go in unassisted to score the 4th goal of the game. Mike McIvor
stood tall between the pipes for the win.
Quinte hosted their homeopener on the Yardmen, newly name CAA arena, to the Ajax-Pickering Raiders on Sunday. The Devils would fall behind on the scoreboard as the Raiders found the back of the net first but Wright answered back quickly on the pass from Ewart. Ewart would go in unassisted again to get the go ahead goal to make it 2-1 Quinte. The Raiders would not
let up and managed to sneak by 2 unanswered goals to make it a 3-2 loss for the Devils. Dean Spry was in net for the game.
On Deck; The Madison Excavating Peewees will host 2 home games this upcoming week on Saturday in Cobourg and on the Yardmen, CAA arena, on Sunday.
Bonn Law- Minor Bantam
The third week in the regular season comes to close with an impressive 6-0 record for the Bonn Law Minor Bantams. Their two wins this weekend places them in first place in the East division.
The boys took to the road versus Clarington Toros on Saturday and were able to squeak out a 4-3 victory, coming back late in the game. Jack Dever opened the scoring in the first period with assists to Ethan Miedema and Ethan Quick, before QRD went down 2-1 on two quick powerplay goals for CT. Cal Uens tied it back up in period two with an assist to Christopher Brydges. Early in the third, CT regained the lead but QRD was able to regroup with goals from Justin Murdoch and Jack Dever with assists credited to Ben Davy and Christopher Brydges. Aidan Crowley was in net for QRD and made a huge save late in the third to allow the boys to battle back.
The Bonn Law Minor Bantams hosted the neighboring Peterborough Petes on their home ice at RCAF Sunday evening. This proved to be the most physical match up of the season so far. The boys were on fire, demonstrating both exceptional offense and defensive efforts. Quick puck movement and tough physical play proved to be a recipe for success in the 6-0 win. Liam Murphy was solid in net and earned his first shutout as a Red Devil!!! Scoring came from Aiden Haller-Brady (2), Jack Dever, Ethan Miedema, Ethan Quick and Michael Dolton with assists recorded by Ethan Miedema (2), Ethan Quick (2), Jack Dever, Tyson Carr, Ben Davy and Josh Cunningham.
The Devils look to continue their hard work during practices over the next two weeks, taking a well-deserved break before heading to the West and taking on Barrie and North Central Predators the weekend of October 12 and 13.
The Pond at Rhino Sports & Playland- Minor Atom
The Rhino Sports Minor Atom team played three games on the road this week.
The team traveled to Kingston on Wednesday night to face the Kingston Jr. Frontenacs for their first match of the season. Kingston scored first, but Quinte came back strong to take the 5-1 win with Daniel Yeo in net.
On Saturday the Devils took on last years rival- The Barrie Colts. Chase Cybulskie scored the first goal of the game. Quinte came back with two more goals in the second period (Brayden Davidson and Chase Cybulskie- assisted by Ryan Foley). Unfortunately it wasn't enough, and Barrie took the 4-3 win.
On Sunday the Minor Atom team traveled to Orillia to play the North Central Predators. After a long week of hockey, the team was losing steam, but they stayed in the game and settled for a 1-1 tie to end the week.
After the first month of regular season play with 26 goals for and 6 goals against the QRD Major Bantams sit on top of the ETA East Division with a 5 – 0 record.
Foley Bus Lines- Major Bantam
The Major Bantams travelled north on the weekend to play the Barrie Jr Colts and North Central Predators.
On Saturday the Devils faced the Colts. After the first period the score was tied 1 -1. Both teams would score again in the second leaving the score tied at 2. The Devils came out hot in the third out shooting and eventually outscoring the Colts 5 - 2.
On Sunday it was the Predators trying to give the Devils their first loss of regular season play. The Devils found the back of the net first with only minutes into the game. The Devils netted two more in the second while North Central added one of their own. In the third Quinte would add one more goal that lead them to a 4 – 1 win over the Preds.
Next action is this Saturday when the Devils host the Peterborough Petes. Game time is 3:45pm at QSWC (Family Dental Centre).
McInroy Maines- Major Midget
The McInroy Maines Major Midgets began the season on the road in Markham on Sunday. The boys came ready to go and finished with a solid 3-1 win. Sam Dingle was rock solid in the net turning away all but one puck. Goal scorers were Nolan Dawson, Nick Kirby- Palliser and Curtis Dicks. Chipping in with assists were Kyle McMechan, Dawson Lindsay, Lief Murphy, and Gavyn Stevenson.
The boys open on home ice Saturday October 5th at the Yardmen CAA Arena 7pm vs. Clarington
Free Flow Petroleum- Minor Midget
It was a busy week for the Free Flow Petroleum Minor Midgets who played three games over a five day span.
The Devils hosted Kingston on Wednesday night. Shortly into the second period the boys were down 2-0 but turned it around to capture their first regular season win. Zack Brooks and Jett Butler each scored in the second period with Nathaniel Burelle sealing the game winner in the third. Connor Brooks contributed 2 assists. Alex Lucas was in net for the 3-2 win.
The team travelled overnight for two games over the weekend. First up, Quinte faced Barrie, who got the jump on the boys within the first minute scoring a quick goal. The game was action packed with both teams scoring multiple times. Quinte came out on top with their second win of the week. Final score was 6-5. Goals from Zack Brooks, Nathaniel Burelle, Clayton Farrow, Ben White, Luke LePalm and Jett Butler. Helpers from Farrow, Burelle, Zack Brooks(2), Hunter Hall, Erik MacNiel, Butler and Gavin Camp. Alex Lucas tended net.
Sunday the team travelled to Rama to take on the North Central Predators. The team fell behind 3-0 but came back to tie the game in the third. Unfortunately two late goals for the Predators sealed the loss for the Devils. Final score was 5-3. Zack Brooks scored two. Jett Butler scored the third. Assists from Clayton Farrow (2) Nathaniel Burelle, Hunter Hall and Ben White. Ethan Fraser was in net.
KKP- Major Atom
The Major Atoms played a pair of games on the weekend. On Saturday the Major Atoms had their home opener in Frankford versus the Ajax Pickering Raiders.
The Major Atoms battled all game, but could not beat the Raiders goalie, losing 3-0.
On Sunday the Major Atoms travelled to York Simcoe to play the Express. The Major Atom’s again ran into a hot goalie, but were able to to pull out a 1-1 tie. Scoring for the Devils was Kolby Craig, assisted by Jack Foley.
The Major Atoms host the Peterborough Petes on Wednesday before taking the Thanksgiving weekend off.
Pita Pit- Minor Peewee
The Pita Pit Minor Peewees had a quiet week with only one game on the road. They faced the Markham Waxers Saturday and unfortunately didn't see the result they had hoped. Their lone goal was scored by Pax Murphy assisted by Carter Chadwick and Ben Laird. It was a 3-1 loss with the last goal being an empty netter for the Waxers. Reece Herman was strong in net.
