Quinte Red Devils Weekly Report #8: Nov 5- Nov 11

Bonn Law- Minor Bantam
The Bonn Law Minor Bantams have been named OMHA team of the month for October! This award is sponsored by Gatorade and awarded by the OMHA to a team that reaches an extraordinary level of excellence. The team has been featured on the OMHA’s twitter and Instagram accounts. (Photo attached) 

The team continued to have regular season success with wins against Ajax Pickering Raiders and Richmond Hill Coyotes over the weekend, topping the East division with a 15-0 record. The boys travelled west to take on Ajax Pickering, where Ethan Quick opened scoring for QRD on a rebound from Christopher Brydges. AP was able to tie the game nearing the end of the first with a powerplay goal, but Ben Davy (assist to Quick) put QRD ahead again after one period of play. Jack Dever and Michael Dolton (assists to Sid Wakely & Josh Cunningham) secured the lead in the second and Brydges scored mid way through the third for a 5-1 lead. Ajax Pickering battled back late in the third to score 2 additional powerplay goals making it a 5-3 final. Aidan Crowley posted the win in net. 

The boys then faced off at RCAF against the Coyotes Sunday evening following the National Anthem and a moment of silence to honour our soldiers in the spirit of Remembrance Day. The boys got to work and came out with a 9-1 victory despite a short bench. Liam Murphy was in net and offense came from Aiden Haller Brady, Ethan Quick (3), Jack Dever (2), Spencer Cranley (2), and Justin Murdoch. Assists came from Christopher Brydges, Dever, Sid Wakely (2), Haller Brady (2), Ben Davy, Cranley, Quick, Michael Dolton, Murdoch, Josh Cunningham and Tyson Carr. 

The boys have upcoming games Wednesday and Saturday this week versus the Oshawa Generals and North Central Predators at the CCC. 

McInroy Maines- Major Midget
McInroy Maines Major Midget Quinte Red Devils won their only game of the week this week over the North Central Predators 4-3 in the friendly confines of the newly named CAA Arena.

Next home action for the boys is November 24 vs. Central Ontario Wolves, 7:30 at the the Duncan McDonald Arena in Trenton. 

Madison Excavating- Major Peewee
The Madison Excavating Peewees added another point this weekend with a tie in their only game of the week.

The Devils took to the road this past Saturday to Aurora to take on the York-Simcoe Express at St. Andrew's College. In a fast paced, back and forth game, it would be Quinte who hit the scoreboard first with a goal midway in the first from Jared Langdon, assisted by Thomas Kuipers. The Express would answer back minutes later to tie the game. The remainder of the game would continue to be a back and forth battle but would remain scoreless to the end. The Devils would settle for the tie and single point. Mike McIvor stood tall in net for Quinte. 

The Madison Excavating Peewees will be in Toronto next weekend for the Rebels Tournament. 

Foley Bus Lines- Major Bantam
On Thursday the Devils hosted the Kingston Frontenacs for their second match up of the regular season.

The Devils would find the back of the net first with less than a minute to go in the opening period.  The second period was scoreless but the Devils would strike twice in the third period to take a 3 – 0 win over the Frontenacs.

A.Walsh Fencing- Novice
This past weekend the Devils traveled to Barrie for the Remembrance Day Tournament.  Twenty one teams participated in the tournament, teams from the SCTA,NYHL,ETA and Alliance league all participated.


The Devils first game of the tournament they would face the West Mall Lightning (black) out of the NYHL.  The Devils would score 7 minutes into the game to take a 1-0 lead.  in the second period the Devils would continue to control the play and add another goal to go up 2-0 and  would go on to  win the game 3-0.
Ryerson Swan was in goal and had the shutout.

Goals- Easton Thompson, Mason VanHuizen, Joey Seguin
Assists- Brady Shepherd, Lauchlan Whelan, Brechyn Aird, Brycen McCoy, Trent Clow

The second game of the tournament the Devils would play Duffield Black one of the top teams out of the NYHL.
The Devils would get off to a great start by opening the scoring six minutes into period and would control the play and had a 1-0 lead heading into the second period.  in the second period Duffield would take over the game by putting up six goals in the period and take a 6-1 lead into the third period. Duffield would go on to win the game 10-3.
Nathan McDonald was in goal for the Devils.

Saturday the Devils would play ETA west foe the Markham Waxers.  Markham would get off to a great start and take a 2-0 lead early in second period.  The Devils would storm back in the second period and score four goals to take a 4-2 lead into the third period.  The Devils would go on to win the game 6-2.
Ryerson Swan was in net for the win.

Saturday afternoon the Devils would play their last round robin game against SCTA foe the Hamilton JR Bulldogs.
Hamilton would come out strong in the first period and take a 2-0 lead in to the second period.  The Devils offence would heat up in the second period by scoring three goals to take a 3-2 lead into the third period.  The Devils would add one more goal to win the game 4-2 and finish second in their pool behind Duffield Black and make the Quarterfinals on Sunday.
Nathan McDonald was in goal for the win and made some key saves to secure the two goal win.

Sunday, the Devils would face one of the top teams out of the NYHL Duffield Gold and their hand picked eleven skaters.
The Devils would have their strongest first period of the tourney but couldn't beat the hot goalie on Duffield. The period would end in a 0-0 tie.  The Devils would finally beat the goalie in the second period and take a 1-0 lead.  The Devils would run into penalty trouble and Duffield would get on the board with a power play goal to tie the game at 1-1.  In the third period, Duffield would get a partial breakaway and score taking the lead 2-1 with ten minutes left in the third period.  The Devils continued to apply pressure in the third but couldn't find the back of the twine and would lose 2-1.

Ryerson Swan was in net and made some big point blank saves in the third period.

Next up for the Devils is a home game (NOV 17) Saturday at 2:15  in Belleville and Sunday (NOV 18) they travel to Oshawa 4:30 Start time.

 

The Pond at Rhino Sports & Playland- Minor Atom
The Rhino Sports Minor Atom team played one game this weekend.  

On Sunday, they faced off against the Oshawa Generals in Madoc.  Brody Harrison started off the game with a goal in the first period, followed by a slap shot by Nate Rashotte to bring the score to 2-0.   Grayson Hunt scored a short handed goal in the third, followed by another goal to bring Quinte to 4-0.  Brayden Davidson finished off the game with a wrist shot from the blue line for the final 5-0 win against Oshawa.  Assists went to: Chase Cybulskie (x2), Nate Rashotte (x2), Maclean Chisholm, Jonas McCoy and Seth Scaletta.  Charlie Vos took the shut out in net!   

On deck- The Minor Atoms have a busy three game week and will start it off on Friday against the Toros in Clarington.

Free Flow Petroleum- Minor Midget
Two games and two wins for the Free Flow Petroleum Minor Midgets this weekend.

Saturday the team travelled to Stouffville to compete against the Markham Waxers.  Ethan Broek opened up the scoreboard halfway through the first period with assists from Clayton Farrow and Zack Brooks.  Markham tied it up in the second period but Quinte answered with a goal from Connor Brooks with assists credited to Daniel Michaud and Nathaniel Burelle.  Zack Brooks had an unassisted third period goal for a final score of 3-1.  AP Goalie in net was Corbin Votary for the victory.

The second game of the weekend was a road trip to Lindsay to face off against the Central Ontario Wolves.  After a scoreless first period, COW got the first puck in the net but the Devils tied it up when Michaud potted onelater in the second period.  Two morepower play goals put the team in the lead.  Goals were from Connor Brooks and Ben White.  COW scored once in the third for a final score of 3-2 with the Devils coming out on top.  Alex Lucas played net for the win.  

On deck the Minor Midgets are at Evinrude in Peterborough to play the Petes this Tuesday November 13th .  Puck drop is 8:30pm.
