Here is the weekly report for the week ending Sunday Jan 26, 2025...
The Environmental 360 Solutions U16 AAA Quinte Red Devils lost some ground in the OMHA East standings to fifth-place Peterborough thanks to a 3-1 loss last Wednesday to the visiting Petes, but two subsequent victories over the weekend against the Whitby Wildcats improved Quinte’s fourth-place slate to18-7-2-and-1, for 39 points, to shove a four-point spread between themselves and Peterborough. The Devils have gone 6-and-1 through their last seven-game stretch which culminated with 5-1 and 2-1 wins over Whitby.
Ajax-Pickering currently sit atop the East Conference, sporting 45 points, while York- Simcoe and Barrie are just one point off the first-place pace, just four points ahead of Quinte.
On Sunday at the CAA Arena Nate Rashotte potted a pair of third-period goals, including one on the powerplay, to pace Quinte as they romped to the 5-1 win, beating Whitby for the second time in two days. Ryan Foley also had a big night for the winners, scoring once and assisting twice, with his goal coming while playing-two-men short midway through the third set. During the penalty-kill Foley was able to steal the puck from the Wildcats goaltender behind the net before slipping it into the unprotected cage to give the Devils a 3-1 lead before Rashotte’s pair put the game out of Whitby’s reach. Prior to a scoreless second period, Blake Munnings (two points) and Chase Cybulskie netted one each in the first frame while the Wildcats countered on the powerplay, beating Devils’ goalie Ayden Mullen with their only goal, to pull even 1-1 early in the contest. Isaac Tracze and Mac Chisholm had single assists as Quinte beat Whitby for the third time in three meetings this season.
In Whitby on Saturday goalie Lily Reid also held the Wild to just one goal as she backstopped her team to the 2-1 triumph. Rashotte and Cybulskie led the Devils’ attack in this one, scoring once apiece to get Quinte back on track after losing to Peterborough the previous Wednesday. Tracze, Foley, Nick Colson and Ty Leavitt notched helpers for the winning side.
Against Peterborough on the Wellness Centre’s FDC ice-pad Rashotte had Quinte’s lone goal, scoring unassisted at 10:57 of the first period to tie it up 1-1 just over a minute after the Petes had opened the scoring. Peterborough pulled ahead to stay under a minute later, then with five seconds remaining in the game they scored into an empty net to take the 3-1 win Mullen on the bench for the extra man.
On Deck...with playoffs just around the corner the Devils have only four regular season games remaining, with two going this week. They’re in Markham this Thursday (Jan. 30) before returning home to Belleville Sunday for a 1:30 puck-drop with Ajax-Pickering at the CAA.
