The Madison Excavating U13 AAA Quinte Red Devils Earn Four More Points This Week!

Tuesday, January 28th, vs. Central Ontario Wolves
The Madison Excavating QRD U13s defended home ice on Tuesday night, edging out the Central Ontario Wolves by 3-2 in a hard-fought battle. The Wolves were first on the board, late in the opening frame, cashing in on the power play. Quinte, however, answered back in the second when Blake Sills, set up by Blake Milne, buried the equalizer. QRD grabbed their first lead in the third with a powerplay tally from Everett Brown, who converted on a feed from Blake McManus and Kade Osterhout. A few minutes later, Coulter Watson sniped the eventual game-winner, with Cooper Plumley picking up the assist. The Wolves did manage to strike again on a powerplay advantage with two minutes to go, but QRD dug in defensively. Goaltender, Ben Larmer, stood strong, shutting down the opposition to help seal the victory.

Saturday, February 1st, vs. Markham Waxers
On Saturday afternoon, the QRD U13s hit the ice at home with energy, in a tough tilt against the Markham Waxers. The Waxers struck early, finding the back of the net less than four minutes in. Quinte responded quickly on the power play, as Coulter Watson buried a feed from Hewett Tejnor and Cooper Plumley, just three minutes later. The Waxers wasted no time reclaiming the lead five minutes after that. The second period was a grind, with both teams pushing the pace, but neither able to score. The Waxers then broke things open in the third, netting three to put the game out of reach for QRD. In spite of the 5-1 loss, between the pipes, Hayden Tripp made numerous clutch saves to keep his team in it until the final buzzer.

Sunday, February 2nd, @ Central Ontario Wolves
In their second showdown of the week against the Central Ontario Wolves - this time on the road in Woodville - the Devils battled to a thrilling 2-1 victory. The opening frame was a tight-checking event, with neither team able to crack the scoreboard. Late in the second, QRD finally broke through on the power play, as Lennox George buried a feed from Cooper Plumley with under four minutes left. The Wolves wasted no time responding, answering just twelve seconds later to knot things up. With a potential tie looming, Jack Seeney ripped the game-winner with just 1:11 left on the clock, off a setup from Lennox George. Between the pipes, Ben Larmer was rock solid, turning away key chances to help lead his team to victory.

The Breakaway Fuels U11 AAA Quinte Red Devils are Silver Medalists at Barrie Colts Tournament

This weekend the Breakaway Fuels U11 Devils headed to Barrie for the Annual Colts Tournament.  The tournament featured 24 teams from Ontario and the US.

The boys went 3-1 in round robin play winning 4-2 over the Brantford 99'ers Friday am before dropping a game 3-0 to the Guelph Gryphons.  Saturday they came out flying and secured wins over the Waterloo Wolves 5-1 and Sudbury Wolves 4-1.  Their 3-1 round robin record along with the best goal quotient helped secure first place in their division.

Sunday the Breakaway Fuels Boys started with a quarter final match against the Ottawa Valley Silver Seven.  This one was all Quinte and the boys would close it out with a 7-3 victory sending them to the semifinals against Victory Honda from Detroit.  Victory Honda was coming into the semifinals only allowing 2 goals against so far in their 5 games played at the tournament.  The Devils would strike once each period and play a solid 40 mins of defensive hockey to grab a convincing 3-0 win.  After a few hours rest it was back on the ice for the Finals against a very strong Huron Perth Lakers team.  These teams knew each other well from a double header exhibition day just two weeks prior.  The Devils would strike first in this one with Kai Mackie scoring just past the midway mark of the first with assists going to Ethan Dowling and Jackson Simpson.  A late goal by the Lakers with just seven seconds remaining in the frame would tie it.  The Lakers would score three more before Jackson Simpson would find the back of the net with just one minute remaining in the second from Dowling and Mackie.  Mackie would get his second just 40 seconds later from Dowling and Simpson to draw the Devils within one heading into the third.  Jayden Stehlik would finish off a tic tac toe play on the power play from Reid Haley and Charlie Dwyer to tie the game with 12:35 left to play.  It was edge of your seat action down the stretch but the Lakers would score with 6 minutes remaining and finish with an empty netter to take the game and the title 6-4.
The coaching staff is very proud of the teams effort after dropping a game in the round robin and trailing 4-1 in the finals, the boys battled their hearts out all weekend and should hold their heads high as they head back to league play next weekend.

The U11's head to Kingston next Saturday for a 2:30 game at Invista versus the Jr Gaels before heading to Markham on Sunday for a 1pm tilt against the Waxers

However the Whitecaps would answer back in the second, seeing the score tied 2-2, heading into the final frame. North Shore found the back of the net on a power play early in the 3rd, and went on to score 2 more times before the end of the period. Walker Elrick (assisted by Beckham Nightingale and Pearce McCormick) scored once more for Quinte, but it wasn’t enough, with the game ending in a 5-3 loss.

The Environmental 360 Solutions U16 AAA Quinte Red Devils dropped a close 3-2 decision to the Ajax-Pickering Raiders Sunday at the CAA Arena after beginning the two-game week last Thursday with a 3-2 overtime victory in Markham to complete a three-game regular-season sweep of the Waxers.

Ajax-Pickering scored two unanswered goals in the third period to climb out of a 2-1 deficit and move to within a single point of the front-running Barrie Colts, and one up on third-place York-Simcoe Express, with the win in Belleville.  Meanwhile, Quinte holds onto fourth place, seven points out of third and four ahead of fifth-place Peterborough.  In loss to Ajax-Pickering, the Devils jumped ahead 1-0 on Mac Chisholm’s goal in the first period then Nate Rashotte broke a 1-1 second-period deadlock, scoring early in the third before the Raiders beat goalie Ayden Mullens with the tying and winning goals during the final half of the period.  Quinte assists came from Rashotte, Pierson Clute and Seth Scaletta.

Markham led 1-0 after the first period on Thursday and 2-1 following two sets, but two goals from Ryan Foley, including the O/T winner, paved the way for the 3-2 Quinte win.  With a Waxers’ powerplay tally giving them the early lead in the opening set, Foley netted his first, scoring unassisted at 3:43 of the second period to knot it up 1-1.  Just over four minutes later Markham retook the one-goal lead ahead of Cole Coughlin’s goal, which came13:48 into the third period and brought the game into overtime where Foley ended it with 4:28 to go in extra time.  Chase Cybulskie assisted on Foley’s clincher while goalie Lily Reid recorded her second win over Markham in less than two weeks.

On Deck...the OMHA East Showcase takes place at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre this coming weekend when all 11 teams from the East Conference descend upon Belleville for a pair of regular season games each.  The Red Devils will faceoff with two of the East’s top three clubs during the Showcase, first taking on York-Simcoe at noon Saturday before closing out the regular season against Ajax-Pickering on Sunday at 2:30.  Both Quinte games go on the FDC ice-pad.
