Breakaway Fuels U11 AAA Quinte Red Devils Start Playoffs with Two Wins
The Breakaway Fuels U11 Red Devils started their playoffs with a home and home against the York Simcoe Express
Saturday had the young devils at home on the Mackay Pad for a 3:45 start. The Devils jumped on the Express early scoring three in the first. Greyson Rennie and Charlie Dwyer would score unassisted goals before Ethan Dowling would score with an assist going to Jared Russell. The Express would get one back in the second but Jayden Stehlik would add another unassisted marker in the third to give the boys a 4-1 win. Deacon Vos was dialed in from start to finish in net and along with the entire defence group took home player of the game honours.
Sunday the Breakaway boys were in their cars heading to St Andrews College for a rematch. This one was a fast tight checking affair scoreless through the first frame. Dowling would put the Devils up finishing a great pass from Kai Mackie. Kolton Solmes from Tripp Plumley and Rennie would increase the lead just 18 seconds later. The 2-0 lead held up until early in the third when York Simcoe cut the lead in half. The Devils would then explode for four straight to close with a 6-1 win. Scoring in the third was Ryder Bradford, Dwyer, Wade Robinson and Mackie. Assists went to Plumley, VanEgmond, Avery Thickson, Stehlik, Mackie, Jackson Simpson, and Bradford. Jordan Andrews was stellar in the pipes and Tripp Plumley took home player of the game.

The Gillespie's Tree Service U15 AAA Quinte Red Devils got their quest for the red hats rolling into high gear with the opening weekend of the playoffs in the OMHA East. A bit of a slow start on Saturday against COW snowballed into an uncharacteristically bad outing. The boys dropped game 1 of their playoffs with the lone offensive bright spots being provided off the sticks of Andrew Laurin and Trent Clow with assists going to Ewan Dahle on Laurin's goal and Spencer Harold on Clow's marker. After a quick turnaround the squad looked to hit the reset button on Sunday on the road again at York Simcoe. After digging themselves an early 2-0 hole, QRD finally got on the board with a Lawson Minifie tally with help from Austin Preston off the draw at centre. YSE would get another late in the first to send QRD to the break down 3-1. A power play opportunity saw Minifie feed Brechen Aird for a blast from the point that Coen Lowry got a stick on to direct home to cut the lead to 3-2. The Express would get that one back to take a 4-2 lead into the intermission. QRD needed a huge 3rd period to get their playoff run on track. The Devils got within one after Trent Clow picked up a loose puck to feed Jack Beebe for a great cross ice pass to Spencer Harold who buried a shot past the Express goaltender. Andrew Laurin would be credited with the tying goal after a York Simcoe miscue saw them put the puck in their own net. The rest of regulation would solve nothing and the 2 teams would try and solve the game in overtime. After some furious action at both ends of the ice, YSE would blink first as Trent Clow sealed the deal picking off a clearing attempt and burying the OT winner over the netminder's shoulder. The 5-4 QRD win capped off a very up and down start to the postseason.
This week sees a pair of weeknight contests as Kingston comes to town on Wednesday and the squad travels up the 401 to Whitby on Thursday. Dax Sage was sharp between the pipes.
On Sunday, The Red Devils hosted the Central Ontario Wolves in a game at Campbellford. The two teams put on a great show in front of a large crowd, as the Wolves took a 4-3 win in OT.
Scoring for The Devils was Brody Grant, Cameron Stevens and Mason Whalen. Chipping in with helpers on the goals; Austin Pettey (2), Gullage, and Thomas Marsden. Matt Travers was fantastic in net for his team.

Two Close Games to Start the Playoffs for The Madison Excavating U13 AAA Quinte Red Devils
Saturday, March 1st, vs. North Central Predators
The Madison Excavating QRD U13s opened their playoff run this weekend with a home game against the North Central Predators on Saturday afternoon. The Devils came out strong, striking first just over five minutes into the opening frame when Blake McManus tallied, assisted by Coulter Watson. North Central answered early in the second, finding the back of the net less than a minute in. QRD regained the lead nearly ten minutes later, as Dylan Chalk finished a setup from Kade Osterhout. NCP responded, tying it up at 2-2 with 2:51 left in the period. The third period was a battle, but with under two minutes remaining, North Central netted the game-winner. In spite of the 3-2 loss, Hayden Tripp stood tall in net for Quinte, making key saves throughout.
Sunday, March 2nd, @ Ajax-Pickering Raiders
In game two of the playoffs, QRD travelled to Ajax for a tilt with the Raiders. It was a high-scoring showdown, with both teams trading blows from the drop of the puck. The Raiders struck first, lighting the lamp just two minutes in, but Max Bucknell responded quickly, netting one off a feed from Dylan Chalk. Ajax-Pickering regained the lead soon after, only for Everett Brown to even things up again, finishing a setup from Jack Seeney and Kade Osterhout. The back-and-forth continued as the Raiders answered, but QRD wasn’t going away—Kade Osterhout, with help from Bucknell and Chalk, made it a 3-3 game. The second frame saw more fireworks, with the Raiders briefly pulling ahead, before Lennox George tied it up again within a minute, assisted by Brown and Bucknell. With under five minutes left in the period, Brown notched his second, giving QRD the lead heading into the third. Brown completed the hat trick just forty-four seconds into the final frame, assisted by Jack Seeney and Dylan Chalk, and put QRD up 6-4. Unfortunately, three unanswered goals from Ajax-Pickering sealed the win for the Raiders. Despite the loss, Ben Larmer battled hard for Quinte, helping to keep the game within reach.
Next Up: The playoffs will continue on Tuesday, March 4th, at 7:00 pm vs. North Shore Whitecaps (Madoc and District Recreation Centre), followed by a game on Sunday, March 9th, at 2:30 pm @ Central Ontario Wolves (Woodville/Eldon Community Centre).
