The Gillespie's Tree Service U15 AAA Quinte Red Devils continued their march through the playoffs this week with a pair of home contests. The Central Ontario Wolves came to town on Wednesday night as the Red Devils looked to avenge their only playoff loss to date in this post season. Lauchlan Whelan got the ball rolling early in he game after some hard work and a nice feed off the boards from Cohen Stewart. Forty seconds later, Trent Clow entered the chat after forcing a turnover on a COW clearance attempt and working a nice give and go with Ewan Dahle to put the Red Devils up 2-0. The Wolves would get one back before the end of the first to head to the break down 1. Stewart would cash in a Whelan rebound early in the second to restore the two goal cushion for the Red Devils after Andrew Laurin got the sequence started with a nice breakout pass. The 3-1 score would hold through the break, but Clow would make it a 3 goal cushion early in the 3rd. Ewan Dahle bumped a puck out to Lawson Minife who slid it across for Clow to finish another 2 on 1. COW would get one back before Minifie would finish the game off after a clutch faceoff win by Clow and a great bank off the glass from Jack Sutton for a 5-2 QRD victory. Sunday saw the back half of the home and home series with Whitby take place. After a scoreless first frame, the Wildcats got on the board first putting Quinte in a 1-0 hole. That score would hold through the end of the 2nd. Andrew Laurin got the squad back to even footing early in the 3rd after some great work by Jax Martin to keep the puck deep and set up the scoring chance. The Quinte offence kept the pressure up and finally broke through on the power play. Trent Clow took a Brechen Aird  pass deep in his own end and did the rest to put QRD in front for good. Jax Martin added a long range empty net marker with just over a minute to play to seal the deal on a much needed 4 point week for the Devils. Nathan Ferriss was strong in the cage across both games for QRD. Their 6-1 record so far in the playoffs leaves them only needing two points in their next games to clinch a spot at the OMHA Championships in Kingston.

The close of the playoffs this week sees the gang travel to Kingston Thursday night and then host a pair of games this weekend against Markham on Saturday and York Simcoe on Sunday. Thursday's action gets underway at 7:30 on the Desjardins pad at the Invista Centre, available to all of our loyal fans on LiveBarn for those who can't make the trip. Saturday and Sunday's games will be held at the Wellness Centre with Saturday's contest slated for a 5:30 start on the CAA pad and Sunday's action set for a 2:15 puck drop on the Family Dental Centre sheet.

The Bonn Law U14 AAA Quinte Red Devils had a solid, team-effort win against the Markham Waxers this past Sun March 16, with a 7-2 win. Brody Grant tipped in a beauty shot from Noah Hughes, next Miller Nicholson had a pair of goals. Jimmy Gullage netted a nice goal from a behind-the-net-pass from Grant making it 4-0. Goal 5 was a pretty tic-tac-toe hockey play from Nicholson to Austin Pettey to Ty Martin. Kyler Patterson moved the puck to Pettey who made it 6-1. Finally Rowan Haley found the back of the net for the 7th goal.

Thursday, March 13th, @ North Shore Whitecaps
The Madison Excavating QRD U13s battled hard but came up just short in a tight matchup against the North Shore Whitecaps in Hampton on Thursday night. The Whitecaps came out strong in the first, potting two goals, including one on the power play. QRD’s Coulter Watson, assisted by Everett Brown and Lennox George, answered early in the second with a power play tally, shifting the momentum. In the third, QRD kept pressing, and Robbie Robinson, assisted by Blake McManus and Everett Brown, found the equalizer at 12:52, setting up a thrilling finish. With just 4:26 left on the clock, however, the Whitecaps buried the game-winner, handing QRD a tough 3-2 loss. Between the pipes, Hayden Tripp made many key saves to help keep the game within reach.

Saturday, March 15th, vs. York-Simcoe Express
In game six of the playoffs on home ice, the Devils came out strong, but the York-Simcoe Express capitalized on their chances, resulting in a tough 6-1 loss for QRD. YSE opened the scoring late in the first, then added two more in the second, including a power play marker. Just under four minutes into the third, Blake McManus buried an unassisted goal to get QRD on the board. In the final frame, YSE answered back with two more before sealing the game with an empty-netter. Despite the loss, Ben Larmer stood tall in net for QRD, turning away countless high-danger chances and giving his team every opportunity to stay in the fight.

Sunday, March 16th, vs. Ajax-Pickering Raiders
On home ice on Sunday afternoon, the Devils had a tight matchup against the Ajax-Pickering Raiders. The Raiders struck first, netting two in the opening frame. QRD responded early in the second, with Kade Osterhout burying a setup from Coulter Watson. About ten minutes later, Cooper Plumley found the back of the net, assisted by Dylan Chalk and Blake Sills, knotting the game at two. The third period was a grind, with both teams pushing for the go-ahead goal. With just 2:08 left, the Raiders capitalized. QRD goalie, Hayden Tripp, battled hard to help keep his team in it.

Breakaway Fuels U11 AAA Quinte Red Devils Clinch OMHA Berth

The Quinte U11 Red Devils had another strong playoff weekend winning two games without surrendering a goal against.

On Saturday they headed to Markham to face a hard working Waxers team.  This one was a typical tight checking game with both teams battling hard for 40 minutes.  Kolton Solmes would score in the first period from Tripp Plumley and Evan VanEgmond.  Deacon Vos stood tall including stopping a late breakaway to preserve the slim 1-0 win.
Solmes took home player of the game honours.

Sunday the boys hosted the North Central Predators at the CAA arena.  Like last weekend the Quinte kids were ferocious on the attack and managed to put 10 pucks past the Predators goalie.  Kai Mackie led the way with a hat trick and took home player of the game.  The entire team played strong at both ends of the ice to help Jordan Andrews grab the shutout.

These two wins helped the team secure their second consecutive OMHA spot which takes place over the March 28-30th weekend in Kingston.

On Deck:  Two more tough playoff games.  Saturday in Whitby at noon and Sunday in Campbellford at noon against the Markham Waxers.
