Sunday Night Grind: QRD Battles Hard in a 2–1 Loss to Markham

The Madison Excavating U14 Red Devils travelled to Markham on Sunday night for a high-energy matchup against the Waxers. Markham jumped ahead early with two first-period goals, forcing Quinte to chase.

QRD found their momentum in the second, capitalizing on a power-play opportunity when Max Bucknell blasted home a shot off a setup from Nico Dipietrantonio. The Red Devils continued to generate strong offensive pressure and battled for every loose puck.

The third period featured back-and-forth action, with both teams trading scoring chances but neither solving the goaltenders. Ben Larmer stood tall throughout the night, turning away multiple dangerous opportunities to keep QRD within one. Despite the push, the Red Devils fell just short in a tight 2–1 final.

COW tied the game early in the third, but QRD responded when Austin Preston tapped in the go-ahead goal off feeds from Ewan Dahle and Kallum Phillips. Jax Martin sealed a 4–2 win with an empty-net marker.
Landen White was strong in the win.

Sunday in Quinte:
After falling behind 1–0, Lawson Minifie scored back-to-back goals—including a shorthanded beauty—to take the lead. COW tied the game late in the first, but QRD regained control in the second when Laurin buried a power-play marker assisted by Austin Ottenhof and Colton Dee.

COW stormed back in the third to take a 4–3 lead, but QRD refused to quit. With the goalie pulled, Laurin tied the game with 1:17 left after strong work by Whelan and Andrew Dewar. In overtime, the same trio completed the comeback as Dewar scored the game-winner, securing a dramatic 5–4 OT victory.
