U12 – Win, Loss, and Draw for the Breakaway Fuels U12 Red Devils
It was a busy and competitive weekend for the Breakaway Fuels U12 Red Devils, who wrapped up their schedule with a win, a loss, and a draw against top OMHA East opponents.
Saturday afternoon at the Mackay Pad saw Quinte square off with the Barrie Colts in a fast-paced matchup between two league leaders. The Red Devils opened the scoring when Kai Mackie buried a rebound off a Silas Templar point shot, with Jackson Simpson earning the second assist. Barrie answered with goals in the second and third periods, and despite a late push, Quinte dropped a tight 2–1 decision. Jordan Andrews was excellent between the pipes.
Just four hours later, the Devils were back on the ice to face the York-Simcoe Express. Quinte controlled much of the opening period and led 1–0 after Mackie finished a feed from Ethan Dowling. A power-play snipe from Smith Pilon (assisted by Jared Russell and Wade Robinson) extended the lead, before Dowling added a breakaway goal and an empty-netter to seal a 4–1 bounce-back win. Deacon Vos was outstanding in goal, including several highlight-reel saves during a late 6-on-3 penalty kill.
Sunday brought a rematch with Barrie in Campbellford. The Colts struck early, but Ryder Bradford tied the game midway through the first (assisted by Pilon and Robinson). After Barrie regained the lead, Evan VanEgmond evened the score early in the third off a passing play from Kolton Solmes and Tripp Plumley. Charlie Dwyer gave Quinte the lead with five minutes remaining, but Barrie tied the game late with their goalie pulled, ending the contest in a 3–3 draw.

Thursday – vs. Peterborough Petes
The Devils welcomed the Peterborough Petes for the first meeting of the season and came out strong. The power play clicked soon after, with Lawson Minifie finishing a crisp passing sequence from Kallum Phillips and Whelan to give QRD a 2–0 lead.
Peterborough pushed back to even the game in the second period, but Quinte regained the lead when Andrew Laurin forced a turnover along the boards, setting up Ewan Dahle, who beat the goaltender short side. In the third, the Devils sealed the win as Phillips and Ottenhof sparked a breakout, allowing Whelan to finish the play and secure a 4–2 victory, putting QRD back in the win column.
