U11: Mixed Results for Quinte Red Devils U11 in Final Stretch
The Quinte Red Devils U11 squad faced a rollercoaster week on the ice, navigating a heartbreaking late-game loss, a dominant home victory, and a tough road challenge as they closed out their playoff schedule.
On Tuesday, March 17, the Red Devils traveled to face the Kingston Jr. Gaels, with Emerson Courtney between the pipes. Nash White, assisted by Walker Elrick, and Pearce McCormick, assisted by Ryker Valois, found the back of the net in the second period to keep the game deadlocked heading into the final frame. In the final 20 seconds, Kingston managed a late goal to steal a 3-2 victory.
The U11s bounced back on Saturday, March 21, for their final home game at the Marmora Arena against the North Shore Whitecaps. After another scoreless opening frame, the Red Devils’ offense surged in the second half of the game. Emerson Courtney stood tall between the pipes while Withers, Fraser, McCormick, and Valois all scored in a commanding 4-1 win. Charbonneau, Elrick, and Silverburg chipped in with key assists. The U11s would also like to thank the staff at the Marmora Community Centre for all of their support this season.
The week concluded on Sunday, March 22, with a trip to face the York Simcoe Express. Despite a valiant effort from goaltender Aiden Ferreira, the Express controlled much of the momentum. Jaxson Withers scored the lone Quinte goal, assisted by Silverburg and White, as the Red Devils fell 5-1.
As their season comes to a close, the U11s would like to thank all of their coaches, families, friends, and sponsors for their support throughout the season.
U12: Breakaway Fuels U12 Red Devils Come Up Short at OMHAs
The U12 Red Devils headed to Newmarket this past weekend for the OMHA Championships.
The weekend began Friday morning with a matchup against their OMHA East rivals, the Whitby Wildcats. The game remained tightly contested into the second period before the Red Devils opened the scoring early in the middle frame. Quinte held that lead until the third, when they extended it to 2-0. Whitby responded with just over two minutes remaining to make for an exciting finish, but an empty-net goal sealed a 3-1 victory for the Red Devils.
Later Friday, the boys took on the Burlington Eagles. Despite generating several Grade A scoring chances, they struggled to find the back of the net and found themselves trailing 3-1 in the third. A goal with three minutes remaining cut the lead to one, but despite pulling the goalie and applying late pressure, they dropped game two.
Saturday brought a must-win matchup against the defending champions from Southern Tier. Any time the last two champions face off, it is a thrilling battle, and this one was no different. Unfortunately, the hockey gods were not on Quinte’s side, and the Red Devils ended up on the wrong end of a 3-1 score.
Despite not having the weekend they had hoped for, the coaching staff is extremely proud of the group for an outstanding season. The U12 Red Devils finished the year with a record of 49-14-3.
