The Breakaway Fuels U11 Red Devils had a busy week playing 4 games in 4 days.
The week started on Thursday night with a home game at RCAF arena versus the Jr Gaels from Kingston. This was a tight checking affair with scores of 1-0 after the first and 2-1 after the second. The Devils would open things up in the third and finish with a 4-1 victory. Scoring for the Devils were Ethan Dowling, Kai Mackie, Evan VanEgmond and Jackson Simpson. Assists went to Mackie, Charlie Dwyer, Jayden Stehlik, Wade Robinson, Silas Templar, Kolton Solmes and Reid Haley. Jordan Andrews picked up the win in net and Stehlik took home the game Fork.
Saturday the kids headed to Inglewood to play an exhibition doubleheader against the Huron Perth Lakers. Game one started quick when Mackie scored from Dowling just five seconds in. Unfortunately the Lakers would score 4 unanswered before Tripp Plumley would snap one home with just over four minutes left to play. Sixteen seconds later Ryder Bradford would bring the Devils within one with assist to Mackie. Despite some late game chances the Lakers took the game 4-3. Deacon Vos made some outstanding saves to give his team a chance to comeback. Bradford would take home player of the game.
Just 90 minutes later the teams squared off again. This time the first was scoreless. The Lakers scored midway through the second to take a 1-0 lead into the third. Simpson from Dowling would even the score before Stehlik from VanEgmond and Templar would give the Breakaway Fuels Boys a 2-1 lead. A late penalty put the Devils down a man and with Lakers goalie out they faced a flurry of action at 6 on 4. Jordan Andrews made some great stops but just as the penalty ended the Lakers found the back of the net with just 23 seconds left in the game. This one ended in a 2-2 tie. Greyson Rennie took home player of the game.
Sunday had the young Devils back in their vehicles and off to Whitby for a tilt with the Wildcats. Unfortunately the team started slow and couldn't get anything going against an always tough Whitby team. The Wildcats would score 11 seconds in and go on to score 4 straight over the game before Kolton Solmes found the back of the net with just over one minute remaining but it was too little too late. Deacon Vos did all he could to keep his team within reach but didn't get much support in this one and the Wildcats skated to a 4-1 win.
On Deck: The U11 team heads to St Andrews to take on the York Simcoe Express on Saturday before a home game next Sunday against the North Shore Whitecaps in Madoc at 2pm.
