21st Ottawa Myers Automotive AAA Shootout Tournament Recap: November 8th-9th
The
Madison Excavating QRD U13s travelled to Ottawa this past weekend to compete in their second tournament of the 2024-2025 season. The QRD U13s finished with a 1-1-2 record after round-robin play. The results were not enough to advance in the tournament, but it was not due to a lack of effort.
Friday, November 8th: Game 1
The Madison Excavating QRD U13s kicked off the tournament with an intense showdown against the Upper Canada Cyclones on Friday morning. Coulter Watson put Quinte on the board early in the first, with helpers going to Kade Osterhout and Keaton Clute. In the second period, Dylan Chalk added QRD’s second goal, assisted by Levi Mallory and Lennox George. Everett Brown, assisted by Watson and Blake McManus, scored in the third, and Chalk netted his second of the game, from Cooper Plumley and George. The Cyclones scored their lone goal late in the final frame, but Benjamin Larmer's solid goaltending sealed QRD’s 4-1 win.

Friday, November 8th: Game 2
That evening, QRD faced off against the number one ranked team from Quebec, Kuper Academy. In spite of some solid team play from the Devils, Kuper Academy scored one goal per period, resulting in a 3-0 loss for Quinte. In net, Hayden Tripp put forth a strong effort to help keep his team in contention.

Saturday, November 9th: Game 3
On Saturday afternoon, QRD would go head-to-head with The Eastern Ontario Wild. The Wild opened the scoring, but Quinte’s Hewett Tejnor, assisted by Everett Brown, responded shortly after. The Wild then scored again to close the first period. In the second, Brown scored to tie it up, and in the final frame, Coulter Watson, assisted by Jack Seeney, put Quinte ahead. The Wild, however, answered back, and the game ended in a 3-3 draw. Benjamin Larmer made some incredible saves to help keep his team in it.

Saturday, November 9th: Game 4
On Saturday evening, in what would end up being the team’s final game of the weekend, the U13 Devils had a tilt against the Ottawa Jr. 67’s. Everett Brown opened the scoring for Quinte, but Ottawa quickly responded to tie things up. In the second period, Hewett Tejnor, assisted by Kade Osterhout and Brown, put the Devils ahead again, followed by an insurance marker from Max Bucknell. Ottawa answered back with two goals of their own, evening the score once again. In the third frame, Osterhout found the back of the net, adding a fourth goal for QRD. The 67's then managed to tie it up for a third time, ending the game in a 4-4 tie, and officially eliminating QRD from the tournament. Between the pipes, Hayden Tripp stood tall, keeping the score close.

Next Up: Saturday, November 16th at 12:30 pm vs. the Barrie Jr. Colts (Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre in Belleville - Mackay Insurance Pad), followed by a game on Sunday, November 17th at 2:30 pm @ York-Simcoe Express (St. Andrew’s College Arena in Aurora).
