The Gillespie's Tree Service U15 Red Devils were on the road for a pair of games this weekend trying to pull their way out of a logjam at the top of the standings.
Saturday afternoon's action took place in Woodville against the Central Ontario Wolves. Trent Clow got the scoring going in the first tucking in a shot caused by a hard forecheck to take a 1-0 lead. That score would stand until midway through the 2nd when Lauchlan Whelan finished off a chance created by Jax Martin and Andrew Laurin to go up 2-0. Before the end of the frame Whelan would bang in a rebound after Laurin did some tough work on the zone entry to set up Martin for a one timer and a 3-0 lead heading into the break. Laurin finished off a chance from Whelan and Austin Preston on the power play for the 4th goal of the day. COW would get one back on an unlucky bounce, but Nathan Ferriss stood tall in net as he had all game and the squad took home a 4-1 win and vaulted to 3rd in the standings heading to Peterborough on Sunday to take on the 2nd place Petes in their first meeting of the year.
The squad fell into an early 2-0 hole before Lauchlan Whelan got the offensive ball rolling off a nice feed from Andrew Laurin. The Petes answered back twice to take a 4-1 lead into the break. QRD scored the next 2 goals off the sticks of Laurin tipping in a Noah Kennedy shot with another helper going to Brechyn Aird and Lawson Minifie batting in a Trent Clow rebound. Sadly that was as close as the game would get with the Petes taking the win in this one.
The team is looking forward to a reset hosting Ajax-Pickering in a rare Wednesday night home game and a full effort when league leading Barrie comes to town on Saturday. Puck drop is 8:15pm Wednesday on the FDC pad and 3:45pm on the Mackay pad Saturday.
