The Gillespie's Tree Service U15 Red Devils travelled to Milton this weekend to participate in the OMHA Showcase with a pair of games against teams from the Western side of the bracket.
Friday morning saw a contest against the 2nd ranked Southern Tier Admirals. After digging themselves an early 2-0 hole, the team managed to shake some of the rust off with John Korver tipping in a Noah Kennedy point shot to head to the 1st intermission down 2-1. The teams would play the rest of the game even and QRD would drop this exhibition contest.
An early Saturday morning tilt with the Sudbury Jr. Wolves would finish off the weekend. Sudbury jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first before some penalty trouble for QRD helped Sudbury's cause in the 2nd. The lone offensive bright spot came on an Austin Preston power play marker off a nice feed from Andrew Dewar as Sudbury would head into the flood up 5-1. The third period would tell a much different story however. After conceding another power play goal to Sudbury to drop further into a 6-1 hole, the Quinte offence exploded. Spencer Harold got the ball rolling with a blast from the point after a great faceoff feed from Austin Preston. Lauchlan Whelan was next to the party with an solo effort starting in his own end. Andrew Laurin chimed in next with a faceoff win assist going to Trent Clow. Sudbury would sneak another goal in to restore a three goal lead before our squad got back to offence. Clow would chip in a marker of his own with assists going to Whelan and Laurin and Laurin would add a short handed tally for his second of the game after forcing a Sudbury turnover. Unfortunately that was a close as the team would get and the comeback bid came up just short with the team dropping a 7-6 decision.
The squad looks to hit the reset button this week and get the second half of the season started on the right foot with a home contest Saturday against Peterborough. Puck drop is 3:45 on the Mackay pad. Sunday sees a road trip to Markham to take on the Waxers. Puck drop is at 4pm in the Markham Village Arena. LiveBarn will provide a stream of that contest as well.
