U15 Red Devils: Week of January 13
he Gillespie's Tree Service U15 Red Devils had a very important week looking for two wins to help them continue their climb up the OMHA East standings.
In a late Wednesday contest the Central Ontario Wolves came to town for a battle of top 5 teams. The U15's offence got rolling early and often in what turned into a one-sided contest. Andrew Laurin got the ball rolling tipping in a Brechyn Aird blast from the point. Ewan Dahle also picked up a helper on the play. Shortly thereafter, Dahle forced a turnover along the wall and fed Laurin for his second of the game. Laurin then finished off the natural hat trick in style taking a Jack Sutton bank pass top shelf while killing a 5 on 3 man advantage for COW. As the 5 on 4 portion of the COW power play was finishing Jack Beebe forced a turnover and hit Austin Preston up the wall and he buried the 4th of the night for QRD. Trent Clow was next to find the scoresheet as Dahle forced another turnover and fed him in the slot to put the home side up 5-0. COW would get one back before Andrew Dewar closed out the scoring in the second period. Jax Martin and John Korver picked up helpers as well. A fairly tame third period by comparison saw the U15 squad find the back of the net one more time as Lawson Minifie rounded out the scoring after a nice series of passes from Beebe and Martin. Rory Young was solid in the cage picking up the win.
Saturday saw the York Simcoe Express make their only trip to Quinte to finish off that regular season series. The tight checking game was everything you would expect in with both teams wanting the valuable two points on offer. The home side got things started on a 5 on 3 power play as Trent Clow buried a cross ice feed from Lawson Minifie to go up 1-0. Andrew Laurin also picked up an assist on the play. Ewan Dahle doubled the lead very early in the 2nd frame picking up a Clow faceoff win and burying it while fending off two Express players down low. York Simcoe would get one back in the 3rd frame, but that was as close as they would get as Nathan Ferriss slammed the door allowing Quinte to pick up their 4th straight league win.
This week sees a pair of weekend games as the squad hosts the Kingston Jr Gaels in their first meeting of the regular season at the Wellness Centre on the Mackay pad Saturday at 3:45. Sunday sees a road trip to Peterborough for the rubber match in that season series. Puck drop is at 7:30 in the Healthy Planet arena and for those following along at home this game is available to stream on LiveBarn.
