The Gillespie's Tree Service U15 Red Devils hosted a pair of home games this week looking to continue their climb up the standings.
Thursday evening saw the Junior Gaels come to town for a game in between snow storms. Ewan Dahle opened the scoring for the home side banging home a rebound off a combined Trent Clow and Brechyn Aird effort. The Gaels would knot the game at one in the second and then jump out to a 2-1 lead early in the 3rd. Clow got the game back to even footing converting a turnover he forced and then Andrew Laurin put QRD ahead 3-2 finishing off a nice passing play with Jack Beebe and Austin Pettey. Unfortunately Kingston would tie it up late and then convert the overtime winner to hand the Devils a home loss, but a much needed point in the standings.
Family Day Monday saw the Markham Waxers came to town after Saturday's snowfall forced a reschedule. QRD jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on an Andrew Laurin tip of a Spencer Harold shot Trent Clow picked up a helper as well. Markham would reel off the next 4 goals as QRD dug themselves a pretty significant hole. From the book of any shot is a good shot, Andrew Dewar got a great bounce from just across centre to pull QRD back to within 2. Jack Sutton and John Korver picked up assists on the play as well. On the same shift, Sutton picked off a Markham clearing attempt and buried it to pull the Devils to within one shot. That tying shot came off the stick of Ewan Dahle after a great cross ice feed from Laurin and outlet pass from Brechen Aird. This saw the Devils off to their second straight OT contest. Unfortunately the result was the same as the U15 squad picked up a single point instead of 2 points for the second straight game.
The Devils close out the regular season this week hosting the North Shore Whitecaps on Wednesday night and then travelling to Kingston on Saturday. Wednesday's game takes place at the Wellness Centre on the Family Dental Centre pad at 8:15. Saturday sees a 6:30 puck drop on the Kinsmen pad at the Cataraqui Community Centre and will be available on LiveBarn for those who subscribe.
