The U11 Quinte Red Devils showcased late-game drama this past week, splitting a pair of tightly contested matchups. After a loss to Kingston Jr. Gaels in their regular-season finale on Wednesday, the Devils displayed resilience on Sunday, exploding for three goals in the final minutes to shut out the Central Ontario Wolves.
On Wednesday night at the CAA Arena, the U11 Quinte Red Devils met the Kingston Jr. Gaels. Aiden Ferreira stood tall in net for the Devils, with the game remaining scoreless through the first period. The deadlock finally broke in the second when Lucas Fraser found an opening and fired the puck home to give Quinte the 1-0 lead. The Jr. Gaels managed to respond, knotting the game at 1-1 heading into the final frame.The Gaels carried the momentum into the third, finding the back of the net twice to take a 3-1 lead. Quinte pushed back with Blake Unger scoring to pull the Red Devils within one. Chipping in with assists were Austin Baily and Pearce McCormick. Quinte pressured for the equalizer, but the Kingston defense held firm to secure the 3-2 victory.
On Sunday, The U11 Quinte Red Devils used a late-game scoring blitz to secure a 3-0 shutout victory over the Central Ontario Wolves in Marmora. The game remained scoreless until the final five minutes of play. Walker Elrick broke the deadlock to give Quinte the lead, followed quickly by a goal from Nash White, assisted by Pearce McCormick and Blake Unger. Unger capped off the scoring with a shorthanded marker to seal the win. In net, Emerson Courtney earned the shutout.
On Deck: The U11’s head to Whitby on Saturday to battle the Wildcats (12pm) and return home to Marmora on Sunday to face-off against York-Simcoe Express (12:30pm).
