Breakaway Fuels U12's Battle Hard at Silver Stick
The Breakaway Fuels U12 team was in Whitby on the weekend for the prestigious Silver Stick tournament featuring North Americas top AAA teams.

The Red Devils kicked their tournament off with a Thursday afternoon game against the Vaughan Kings.  This was a fast paced game and the kids came out flying, playing most of the first period in the Kings end but could not find the back of the net.  They eventually broke the scoreless tie late in the second but the Kings responded with two of their own to take the lead into the third.  The young devils showed some great resiliency and battled back in the third to take the game 4-2.  Scoring for the Devils was Smith Pilon, Kolton Solmes and Kai Mackie with 2.  Assists went to Jayden Stehlik, Silas Templar and Ethan Dowling.
On Friday the boys faced off against the Boston Minutemen Flames for their lone game of the day.  This one was all Quinte and the Devils would improve to 2-0 in the tournament with a convincing 5-0 win.  Scoring in this one was Jackson Simpson with 2, Stehlik, Evan VanEgmond and Tripp Plumley. Assists went to Plumley, Dowling, Templar and Jared Russell.
Saturday saw the Breakaway boys square off against the powerful Huron Perth Lakers.  Like the Vaughan game this one was on another level with end to end action and a scoreless first period.  The Lakers would manage to get 2 in the second and two more in the third before the Devils would respond with two of their own by Simpson and Dowling both unassisted to cut the lead in half.  Unfortunately, despite some great chances, that was all they could sneak by the Lakers goalie and would ultimately fall 5-2.
Three hours later they were back on the ice against the Chicago Reapers.  This game did not start the way they had planned and the Devils found themselves in an early 2-0 hole.  That was all the Reapers would need and the Breakaway Fuels boys just couldn't put things together and ended up losing 2-0 to finish up their tournament.

On Deck:  Weekday game in Markham on Wednesday at 730pm and Home game on Sunday at 1pm versus Ajax in Campbellford.
