U16 Red Devils - Week of September 29
The HockeyStickMan U16 Quinte Red Devils had their home opener this weekend with the York-Simcoe Express coming to town.
Coen Lowry got the party started just 17 seconds into the game with Lauchlan Whelan forcing an Express turnover below their goal line and feeding Lowry for the easy tap in. Andrew Laurin was up next on the scoresheet with help along the wall from Austin Pettey and Ewan Dahle to put the Devils up 2-0 through the first frame. Whelan tallied next after some great passing off the back end from Pettey and Kallum Phillips. Whelan would hit the scoresheet again a few minutes later burying a great opportunity set up by Austin Preston and Laurin. Dahle would round out the scoring in the second taking a Whelan faceoff win 160 feet and potting it for a 5-0 lead. The score would not change through a chippy third period as the squad opened the season with a win.
Next weekend sees another early season tournament run, this time at the Wendy Dufton Memorial Tournament hosted by the London Jr Knights. Game action kicks off Thursday afternoon as the boys take on the Upper Canada College Blues. Friday sees a pair of games with a morning rematch against the Toronto Junior Red Wings as well as an afternoon contest with the Sun County Panthers. Saturday afternoon the gang closes out Pool B play with the Oakville Rangers looking to be top 4 in the pool and start elimination play Saturday evening with quarters, semis and finals slated for Sunday.
