The U16 HockeyStickMan Red Devils hosted a pair of games this weekend as the regular season rolled on.
Saturday saw the Markham Waxers come to town for the first regular season meeting of the year between the clubs. Quinte spent most of the game chasing the play and came up on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline. The lone offensive bright spot came off the stick of Austin Ottenhof as he took an Ausitn Preston faceoff win and Ewan Dahle pass from his own end and found the back of the net.
The gang looked to hit the reset button on Sunday against the North Central Predators in the final game of that season series. The offense made up for lost time as the goals came early and often. Jax Martin got the party started on the power play with help from Lawson Minifie and Kalum Phillips. Austin Preston was next up with Colton Dee and Cooper Poskin adding assists as well. The second period saw more of the same with QRD adding 3 more goals to the tally. Ewan Dahle, Ausitn Ottenhof and Trent Clow all buried markers in a variety of ways and Clow picked up a helper as well. The offence didn't slow down in the third frame as Coen Lowry, Lauchlan Whelan and Preston all rolled the score over. Andrew Laurin picked up a pair of assists with Lowry, Phillips and Minifie adding one each. Nathan Ferriss picked up the shutout in net for the Devils. The win sees the Devils reach the halfway point of the season picking up 27 out of a possible 30 points and sitting comfortably in the top two in the OMHA East.
A rare Thursday night tilt this coming week sees the squad head east up the 401 to take on the Junior Gaels in Kingston in their first meeting of the regular season. Puck drop is at 8:30 on the Desjardins pad at the Invista Centre and is available for streaming on Live Barn and the Poskin Sports Network. The weekend brings a pair of games at the Rickard Recreation Complex in Clarington for the OMHA Crossover Weekend. Saturday sees a matchup with the West leading Oakville Rangers while Sunday brings a contest with the second place Credit River Capitals in what should be an exciting weekend of hockey. Saturday's puck drop is at 5:30 on Pad B and Sunday's action gets underway at 3:00 on the Toyota pad. Both games will be available for streaming on the Poskin Sports Network on YouTube.
