The U16 HockeyStickMan Red Devils hosted a pair of games at the Wellness Centre this week.
Thursday brought the Peterborough Petes to town for the first meeting of the year between the clubs. QRD jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Austin Ottenhof took advantage of a misplayed Lauchlan Whelan shot. Lawson Minifie was next on the board for Quinte finishing off some great passing by Kallum Phillips and Lauchlan Whelan on the power play. The Petes would battle back to tie up the score in the second frame before Andrew Laurin forced a turnover along the offensive boards and Ewan Dahle took advantage beating the goalie through a small short side window to put the Devils up 3-2 heading into the break. The only scoring in the third frame would come as Phillips hit Ottenhof to start a breakout and Whelan did the rest as Quinte would get back in the win column with a 4-2 victory.
Saturday afternoon brought the Barrie Colts to town to finish off the season series. A great first period saw QRD take a 2-0 lead as Lauchlan Whelan buried a short handed goal with help from Lawson Minifie and Austin Preston knocked in an Andrew Dewar rebound. Barrie would reel off the next 4 goals before Quinte would find the back of the net again. Andrew Laurin drummed home a Whelan pass on the power play and Minifie finished off some D to D puck movement by Dewar and Cooper Poskin to level the score. In a frantic last few minutes Austin Preston found the net again for the Devils with Coen Lowry and Whelan picking up assists. Unfortunately the Colts tallied twice including an empty net goal to hand QRD the loss.
A very busy week before the holiday break sees four games for the squad. Monday night brings a trip up the 407 to Markham to take on the Waxers. A 9pm puck drop at the Angus Glen CC can be streamed on LiveBarn. Thursday night sees Whitby come to town for an 8:30 puck drop on the Mackay pad at the Wellness Centre. Saturday brings a return match with Markham to finish out the season series. Game time is 3:45 on the Mackay pad. Sunday has the squad travelling up the 401 to take on the Ajax-Pickering Raiders at 5:15 at the Ajax CC. All four games will be available for streaming on the Poskin Sports Network on YouTube.
