The HockeyStickMan U16 Red Devils hosted a pair of games this week as the regular season continued to approach its end.
The Peterborough Petes were first up on Thursday night for game two of the season series. Kallum Phillips held the blue line, dumping a puck in for a net front battle Andrew Laurin won and Coen Lowry picked up the loose puck and opened the scoring for Quinte. Next up was Austin Ottenhof batting home a rebound off a Lawson Minifie shot with Austin Preston chipping in a nifty pass as well. Phillips sealed the deal taking an Andrew Dewar feed and firing a 180 foot laser into an empty net to complete a 3-0 win. Landen White posted QRD's second consecutive shutout in league play.
Saturday afternoon saw the North Shore White Caps come to town for game 3 of 3 in the season series. A slow starting affair saw QRD finally crack the scoresheet in the second period. Trent Clow won a draw back to Jack Sutton who smartly dumped the puck in and Andrew Laurin did the rest. The Caps would tie it up before Kallum Phillips hit Lawson Minifie with a long stretch pass and he neatly tucked it over to Austin Preston who buried what would be the game winner. A scoreless 3rd frame meant a 2-1 win for Quinte and their 3rd straight league win. Nathan Ferriss was solid between the pipes for the Devils.
The upcoming week sees a break in league play as the team attends the Steve Richey Tournament of Champions in Peterborough. Thursday brings a single contest against North Shore at 1:15 at the Healthy Planet Arena. Friday has a pair of games with the first taking place at 10am against Guelph at the Healthy Planet Arena and the second game happening at the Memorial Centre at 4:45 against the Ottawa Jr 67s. The final pool game takes place Saturday against Chatham-Kent at 11:45 at the Healthy Planet Arena. From there it is hopefully on to the knock out rounds. All games will be available to stream on the Poskin Sports Network on YouTube.
An extra special shout out to the 4 Red Devils who will be showcasing their skill at the OHL Prospects games on Tuesday and Wednesday in Peterborough. Trent Clow, Andrew Laurin, Austin Ottenhof and Lauchlan Whelan will take to the ice to represent QRD across the various games. Good luck boys!
