U16 Red Devils - Week of January 12
The U16 Red Devils took part in the Steve Richey Tournament of Champions in Peterborough this weekend.

The action got underway on Thursday afternoon against their league rivals from North Shore. A slow starting affair saw Coen Lowry get the offensive ball rolling in the second frame tipping home a Cooper Poskin shot. Lauchlan Whelan picked up a helper on the play as well. Austin Ottenhof was next up in the goal column burying the rebound off an Andrew Dewar point shot. Andrew Laurin notched an assist on the play too. Laurin then notched a goal of his own with Whelan drawing the helper. Trent Clow drove the net hard with Laurin getting the first crack at a rebound before Whelan buried it to round out a tidy 4-0 win to open the tournament. Landen White picked up another shutout in net.

Friday's action got underway with a contest against the Guelph Gryphons. QRD opened the scoring in the second frame. Andrew Laurin fed Kallum Phillips for a point shot and Austin Preston knocked home the rebound to out the Devils up 1-0. Coen Lowry forced a turnover on the penalty kill and Lawson Minifie raced away to bury QRD's second of the game. Laurin and Lauchlan Whelan combined some nice passing and puck possession to set up Coen Lowry for the third goal of the game to round out the Devils offence for the game. Nathan Ferriss stood tall picking up the shutout in a 3-0 Quinte win.

Game 3 on Friday afternoon saw Quinte's offence dry up as the squad dropped a 5-0 decision against a strong Junior 67s side from Ottawa.

Saturday morning saw the team take the ice in a must win contest with the Chatham Kent Cyclones. Quinte's offence sprang back to life in a 6-2 win! Trent Clow had a hat trick and an assist and Lauchlan Whelan had a pair of goals with Cooper Poskin adding a single. Lawson Minifie (2), Andrew Laurin(2), Austin Ottenhof and Austin Preston added helpers as well. A showdown with the Ajax-Pickering Raiders was in the cards for the round of 16. Unfortunately a win was not as the squad fell 5-2, ending their tournament. Jax Martin and Coen Lowry contributed goals and Kallum Phillips, Lawson Minfie, Andrew Laurin and Lauchlan Whelan added helpers.

This week sees a return to league play with a pair of road games. Saturday we head back to Peterborough to finish off the season series and Sunday sees a very important trip up the 401 to Ajax. Saturday's action gets underway at 4:15 at the Healthy Planet Arena (Sign-A-Fied pad) and Sunday brings a 5:15 puck drop at the Ajax Civic Centre (Pad 3).
Both games are available for streaming on The Poskin Sports Network on YouTube with Saturday's also being available on LiveBarn for those who subscribe.
