The HockeyStickMan U16 Red Devils had a busy week rolling through their first 3 games of the OMHA East Playoffs.
Family Day brought the Barrie Colts to town in a rematch of the Sunday game of the Showcase weekend. A tight checking first period saw Ewan Dahle provide the only offence with help from Trent Clow. The second period had a bit more offence as the game got a bit chippy and special teams started to play a role. Andrew Laurin scored on the power play with helpers going to Kalum Phillips and Lauchlan Whelan to push the QRD lead to 2-0. Barrie would draw back to within 1, but a pair of short handed goals from Whelan and Laurin would put the Devils well out in front heading into the third frame. Assists went to Cooper Poskin, Colton Dee and Whelan on both of those markers. The timekeeper's busiest period was the last one as a parade to the penalty box played out. In the midst of the chaos Whelan and Jax Martin found the back of the net with help from Dahle, Austin Preston and Ausitn Ottenhof to secure a 6-1 victory and a much needed two points. Nathan Ferriss was outstanding in net shutting the door early and allowing the team to settle in. Saturday and Sunday saw two more home games as Quinte looked to keep the offence rolling. The North Shore Whitecaps would jump out to a 1-0 lead early in the second frame of Saturday's contest before the Devils reeled off 5 straight goals to secure a 5-1 victory. Austin Preston, Coen Lowry, Kalum Phillips, Jax Martin and Trent Clow would find the back of the net while Lawson Minifie (3A), Andrew Dewar (2A), Clow (2A), Lowry, Autin Ottenhof and Cooper Poskin all made the scoresheet with assists on the scoring plays. Sunday brought more of the same as the North Central Predators arrived for this end of the home and home playoff series. The QRD offensive machine picked up where it left off as the team skated to an 8-1 win. Goals came from Lauchlan Whelan (2G), Andrew Laurin (2G), Austin Ottenhof, Ewan Dahle, Lawson Minifie and Coen Lowry. Assists were tallied by Kalum Phillips (2A), Lowry (2A), Laurin, Minifie, Whelan, Trent Clow and Austin Preston. Landen White picked up both weekend victories.
The upcoming week sees another 3 contests, all on the road. Tuesday evening we head East down the 401 to take on the Jr Gaels in Kingston. Game time is 8:30pm on the Desjardins pad at the Invista Centre. Saturday and Sunday the team heads out for a Northern road trip with stops in Barrie on Saturday to take on the Colts at 5:00pm at the Innisfil Rec Centre and Rama on Sunday to face the Predators at 2:30 at the MASK Arena.
