The HockeyStickMan U16 Red Devils hit the road this week for games 4-6 out of their 8 playoff contests.
Tuesday got the week rolling with a trip to Kingston to take on the Jr Gaels. After digging an early hole, the Devils would reel off 6 straight goals to take a 6-2 win. Lauchlan Whelan lead the way with a hat trick and Ewan Dahle, Austin Preston and Andrew Laurin all picked up singles. Kalum Phillips (3A), Coen Lowry, Lawson Minifie and Trent Clow added helpers on the evening.
Saturday brought the second playoff matchup with the Barrie Colts. Barrie struck first before Lauchlan Whelan evened things up with help from Jax Martin and Andrew Laurin. Some penalty trouble saw Barrie pour in 4 straight goals before QRD mounted a furious comeback. Trent Clow got the ball rolling with another assist from Martin and Andrew Dewar found the back of the net before the end of the second frame as well. Lawson Minifie and Ewan Dahle added helpers on that tally. Martin would pound home the third straight goal for QRD with help from Minfie, but that's where the comeback would end as the Devils dropped their first decision of the postseason.
Sunday brought the end of the home and home series with the North Central Predators. A very choppy game saw Jax Martin finally break the ice picking up an errant NCP pass and burying the first of the game. The Predators would tie it up before Trent Clow put the game on ice finishing off some good work down low by Ewan Dahle and Andrew Laurin. The win would push the team's record to 5-1 through the playoffs and more importantly lock them into the OMHA Championship weekend in Peterborough!
On deck for this week are the final two games of the playoffs. Tuesday the team travels to UOIT to take on the North Shore Whitecaps on Campus Ice 1 at 8:45pm. On Saturday the Jr Gaels come to town for the last home game of the year! Puck drop is at 3:45pm on the Mackay pad at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre.
