U16 Red Devils - OMHA Championships
The HockeyStickMan U16 Red Devils headed out to Peterborough this weekend to take part in this year's OMHA Championships.

The action started early Friday morning against their nemesis Ajax Pickering Raiders. Scoreless through two periods, the Devils took control in the third. Lauchlan Whelan opened the scoring with a power play marker with help from Jax Martin and Austin Ottenhof. Ottenhof was next up taking a long range feed from Martin and Austin Preston to double QRD's lead. Martin capped off a 3 point day scoring the teams final goal with Andrew Laurin adding a helper. Landen White pitched the shutout in net and was named player of the game for his efforts.

Game 2 did not go our way as we dropped a 4-1 decision to the Niagara North Stars. Lawson Minifie provided the lone goal for Quinte with Andrew Dewar and Trent Clow picking up assists. Minifie was named player of the game as well.

Saturday afternoon brought a must win contest with the Southern Tier Admirals. Andrew Laurin opened the scoring in the first on the power play with Lauchlan Whelan and Ewan Dahle adding assists on the play. The Admirals would tie it up in the second frame, but Jack Sutton would put QRD back in front taking the puck most of the length of the ice and sniping from the top of the circles. Lawson Minfie and Colton Dee picked up points on the play as well. Southern Tier would tie the game again early in the third to set up a tense final frame. The tie stood until 48 seconds to play when Whelan buried the game winner after some nice passing from Laurin and Coen Lowry. A scrambly last few seconds saw QRD hold the lead and take the win. Trent Clow was selected as player of the game. That started the waiting game from the result from Niagara and Ajax.  After a tense game, the result ended up going the right way and the Devils were off to the semi-finals!

A hotly contested game between two of the best teams in the province in QRD and the Credit River Capitals did not disappoint. In as back and forth an affair as one could ask for, the teams literally traded gaols all game to the tune of a 4-4 tie. Ewan Dahle was up first for QRD notching a power play marker with Andrew Laurin picking up an assist. Austin Ottenhof was up next with Laurin picking up another point. Laurin notched the third goal for QRD picking up his third point of the contest. Lauchlan Whelan picked up a point with the helper on the play. Kalum Phillips would pick up the final goal for QRD with a seeing eye shot from the point to set up overtime. Unfortunately QRD would come up with the short straw and drop an OT decision in what most would consider the game of the tournament. Austin Ottenhof was selected as the play of the game for Quinte.

On the bright side, the season is not done for the team! By making it to the top 4 in the OMHA, the team has qualified for the OHL Cup. This tournament takes place at the Scotiabank Pond in Toronto from Mar 30 - Apr 4. Schedule details are not available at this time, but here is a link to the tournament page. As always, all QRD games will be available for streaming on the Poskin Sport Network on YouTube and the tournament will be streamed on LiveBarn for those who subscribe.
