The QRD U 18 team travelled to Waterloo for the Gold Puck tournament Dec 12-14th. QRD won 7-2 in game one over the Eastern Ontario Willd AAA from Ottawa region, Maddox Vespa scored twice with Oliver Coyle, Connor Fetterley, Dan Foster, and Owen Rivers netting the others. Getting assists were Ryan Babbs (2), Issac Tracze(2), Jaden Leach, Pierson Clute, Noah Lesser, and Maclean Chisholm.
Game #2 the U18 team faced Halton Hills and managed to score halfway in the 3rd period to tie the game up and that’s how it ended 2-2. Scoring for QRD were Maclean Chisholm and Pierson Clute. Assists went to Isaac Trace, Jaden Leach, Ryan Babbs and Maddox Vespa. Kurt Woodley was in net and made numerous strong saves for his U18 team.
Saturday am the U18’s faced # 2 provincially ranked host Waterloo Wolves. Isaac Tracze scored first then Waterloo managed to tie the game up. QRD then scored the next 3 goals with Maddox Vespa and Tracze getting his second of the contest, then Liam Grant with the empty net to seal a 4-1 win. Assists went to Owen Rivers, Gavin Parliament, Maclean Chisholm. Alex Beaupre was the winning Goaltender.
Qrd then took on the Southern Tier Admirals in Game #4 and won 3-0. Connor Fetterley, Noah Lesser, and Gavin Parliament scored for the devils with Owen Rivers, Maclean Chisholm and Oliver Coyle getting helpers. Kurt Woodley got the shutout for the devils.
With a 3-0-1 record the U18’s secured first place in their division and earned a berth in the tournament semi final game where they were to face the Central Ontario Wolves. Qrd scored first on a goal from Owen Rivers with assists from Pierson Clute and Maclean Chisholm but Central lead 2-1 at the end of the first. Qrd then scored twice with Wyatt Albright and Noah Lesser getting goals with assists to Connor Fetterley, Liam Grant, Galen O’shea and Maclean Chisholm. Central tied the game late in the third on a redirect to send the semi-final to OT. Overtime despite QRD dominating solved nothing and a shoot was needed to decide who would advance. After 5 shooters a side Central finally took the tie breaker advancing to the finals and eventually beating the #3 ranked Toronto Titans.
Next up for the u18’s is a Wed 815p, game at the FDC pad this week vs the Peterbourgh Petes.
