QRD Weekly Report – Playoff Edition #1 – Monday February 26, 2018

Foley Bus Lines - Minor Bantam
Foley Bus Lines Minor Bantams in a Battle with Kingston…
In OMHA Quarter Final action, the Foley Bus Lines Minor Bantams end the weekend with an “even” series against the Kingston Jr. Frontenacs.  Both games resulted in ties, evening the series at 2 pts apiece.

On Saturday Feb 24, the Red Devils travelled to Kingston.  The Frontenacs came out strong in the first period with 2 unanswered goals to take the lead going into the 2nd period.  The Devils scored in the second frame to pull within 1, as Sami Douglas-Najem scored on feeds from Owen Beck and Connor Hunt.  The Devils evened the game in the third period when Cooper Matthews scored on an assist from Owen Beck.  Regulation time ended in a 2 – 2 tie and both teams faced a 10 min sudden death overtime period. In end to end action, both teams failed to score resulting in 1 point awarded to each team in the series.

On Sunday Feb 25, the Devils hosted the Frontenacs at the QSWC in game 2 of the quarter final series.  The Devils opened the scoring in the 2nd period, on a goal by Owen Beck, assisted by Cooper Matthews.  The Frontenacs evened the game, late in the 2nd and both teams were tied going into the third.  Cooper Matthews gave the Devils the lead as he scored on an assist from Kellen Dostaler.  Kellen Dostaler provided another goal to make the game 3 – 1, on assists from Parker Steward and Owen Beck.  The Frontenacs were far from finished as they scored two more goals to even the game at 3, in the last few minutes of the third period.  Both teams were heading into another 10 minute overtime period.  Neither team scored in the sudden death period, resulting in another tie, with each team picking up 1 point. 


On Deck: The two ties have left the series tied at 2 points apiece and they will meet again this Wednesday for game 3 at the QSWC. Puck drops at 7:45 pm.

Game Ready Hockey Development - Bantam
The Game Ready Development Bantams played the first two games of the play offs and took a 2 game lead in their series. In the first game, Quinte skated to a 6-1 win over the Central Ontario Wolves. Goals scored by Erik MacNiel, Luke LaPalm (2), Ethan Broek (2) and Nathanial Burelle. Assists from Ben White  (3), Daniel Michaud (2), Nathanial Burelle (2), Blake Maracle, Clayton Farrow and Luke LaPalm. Dixon Grimes was in net for the win and Ethan Broek was awarded player of the game. 

The Red Devils would win the game 2 with a final score of 3-2. Goals were scored by Nathanial Burelle, Daniel Michaud and Luke LaPalm. Assists came from Hunter Hall and Connor Brooks. Ethan Fraser was in net for the win and was awarded player of the game.  

On Deck: Game 3 is Thursday, March 1st at 8:15 pm at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre


Kwik Kopy Printing - Minor Atom 
The Kwik Kopy Printing Minor Atoms traveled to Peterborough for game 1 Saturday February 24th.  It was back and forth action that remained scoreless until Peterborough got on the board midway through the second.  Peterborough would go up 2-0 before the end of the second and would eventually win 3-0. 

The Devils would host game 2 in Madoc Sunday February 25th.  Peterborough once again took the first lead of the game.  Late in first Ryland Cunningham tied the game wiring home a rebound unassisted.  Peterborough would take back the lead early in the second and it remained that way heading into the third. With 8 minutes left in the game, Kolby Craig controlled the play then eventually fired home the tying goal, assisted by Blake Leblanc.

Just over a minute later Cunningham gave Quinte the lead assisted by Riley Reid.  The Devils buckled down defensively, killing off a late penalty to secure the win and even the series at 2 points each.

Pita Pit – Atom
This week the Pita Pit Quinte Red Devils Atom team continued their playoff matchup against the Clarington Toros. Game 3 in Deseronto proved successful for the Pita Pit boys where Liam Boyer picked up a 2-1 win in net. Goals were scored by Avery Wease and Carter Chadwick assisted by Mason Boyer, Deke Osterhout, Kaiden Harmon and Ethan Lord.

On Friday the Pita Pit boys travelled to Clarington and just didn't have the jump they needed and faced an unfortunate 3-1 loss to the Toros. The lone goal was scored by Jake Sage assisted by Evan Erwin. Lennox Stewart was in net.

Game 5 on Saturday was on the Pita Pit boys home ice in Deseronto. With fresh legs, the boys battled hard in a very back and forth game. After 3 periods of intense play, the score remained tied and the team faced over time. Both teams had their chances but to no avail and the game ended in a 2-2 tie leading to game 6. Goals were scored by Deke Osterhout and Avery Wease, with assists from by Rylan McCormack, Osterhout, Mason Boyer, and Avery Wease. Liam Boyer was solid in net.
On Deck:  Game 6 is slated for Feb 27 at 6:30 in Clarington.

Rhino Sports and Play - Novice
On Thursday Feb. 22, the Rhino Sports and Play Quinte Novice Red Devils brought home a big 4-2 win against the Peterborough Petes. Goals were scored by Gabriel Davis, Nate Rashotte (2) and MacLean Chisholm. Assists were provided by Keegan Goulah, Nate Rashotte and Paxton Erskine. Charlie Vos handled the goaltending duties. 

On Saturday Feb. 24, the Novice Red Devils won the first round series with a 5-4 win in game 4 of their series with the Peterborough Petes.  Goals came from Nate Rashotte x2, Brayden Davidson, MacLean Chisholm and Ryan Foley. Assisting on the goals were Pierson Clute, Nate Rashotte, Cameron Shaw, Chase Cybulski, Seth Scaletta and Jonas McCoy.  Daniel Yeo was in goal for the Red Devils. 

With the win, the Devils move on to the 2nd round playoff series against the Barrie Colts and a chance to earn a berth in the OMHA Championships.
