QRD Weekly Report - March 13, 2023
Here is the weekly report for the week ending Sunday March 12, 2023...

The Pita Pit U16s Close Out the Season With a 3-1 Win over Whitby

On Thursday, the Pita Pit U16 Quinte Red Devils travelled to Lindsay to take on the Central Ontario Wolves in a must-win game. Reece Herman stood between the pipes and the Red Devils held the Wolves to a 0-0 tie through three periods of play. It was a hard-fought battle that ended in a 1-0 overtime loss for Quinte, ending all hopes of clinching a spot in the OMHA playoff weekend later in March.

On Sunday, the Red Devils hit the road to play their last game of the season against the Whitby Wildcats. It was a tight match up and the U16’s pulled off a strong 3-1 win with Reece Herman in net. Goals were scored by Brody Neilissen, Deke Osterhaut and Zack Carrier (empty net). The win against Whitby closes out the season for the Red Devils.

A big thank-you to all the U16s’ sponsors this season; we couldn’t have done it without your support!

The Madison Excavating U11 Quinte Red Devils have won their fifth straight playoff game, clinching their spot in the OMHAs.

The U11s travelled to Peterborough on Friday night for a tilt against the Petes. The Devils took the lead forty-seven seconds in, when Coulter Watson beat the Peterborough goaltender, on QRD’s first shot of the game. The score would remain 1-0 for the Devils going into the second period. Two and a half minutes in, Watson would score the game-winning goal. Dylan Chalk would then go on to light the lamp, three and a half minutes after that. Going into the third period, the Devils were up 3-0. In an attempt to turn things around, the Petes scored their sole goal of the game, nine minutes into the third, on a powerplay, reducing Quinte’s lead to two. Everett Brown, however, tucked one in three minutes later, allowing the Devils to regain their three-goal lead, and resulting in a 4-1 victory for QRD. In net, Ben Larmer played a solid game, making many key saves to help lead his team to success.

Coach’s Corner with Head Coach Andrew Brown: “Super excited and proud of the kids for punching their ticket to the OMHAs. We look forward to finishing our playoff round robin this Saturday, and our preparation for OMHA championships.”

In their only game of the week, they travelled to Whitby on Thursday to take on the Wildcats. Quinte opened the scoring less than a minute into the game when Evan Andrews scored an unassisted marker. The Red Devils would score the only other goal of the period when Will Beebe scored from Cohen Reid. The score after the first period was 2-0 for Quinte. The second period Whitby came out flying as they would score three times. Quinte had their chances but couldn’t find the back of the net. The score after two periods was 3-2 for The Wildcats. Whitby would score a powerplay goal seven minutes into the third period, making the score 4-2. Quinte would pull their goalie with time winding down in the period and Andrews would score his second of the game with 1:09 remaining, making it 4-3.
