With a convincing win over the Peterborough Petes the Red Devils are set to take on the Barrie Colts in a best 3 out of 5 or 6 point series.
The Madison Excavating Minor Atoms began their second round ETA playoffs verses the Barrie Colts this past weekend.
Saturday, March 5th had the Devils playing host to the Colts for game one on home ice at RCAF. The Devils came out flying and matched the Colts speed handily. The first period saw the two teams back and forth with equal scoring chances but ended without a score. The second period had the Devils turned away on scoring opportunities, as were the Colts while Glen McInnes worked tirelessly in the Devils net to shut the Colts down. Scoring was held off until mid third period when the Colts opened up the scoreboard. The Devils answered back quickly with an unassisted goal from Liam Philip to tie the game. The two teams continued to battle hard but it was the Colts, on a lucky break, who took the go ahead goal with only 1:36 left in the third. The Devils simply ran out of time to level out the score and the game ended in the Colts favour 2-1.
Sunday, March 6th the Minor Atoms loaded on the Foley Bus Lines Trenton Golden Hawks bus and headed up to Barrie for game two. The first period had the teams once again battling hard and matching speed. The Colts once again got on the scoreboard first before the end of the first. The Devils regrouped as Dean Spry made some big saves and it was Brody Partridge on an assist from Nolan Donnelly who went on the tie up the game late in the second. Barrie answered back to make it 2-1. Unfortunately, the Colts took over scoring for the rest of the game and the Devils succumbed to an unexpected 6-1 loss.
The Devils will be looking for a comeback as they host the Colts for game 3 at 6:15pm at QSWC on Wednesday, March 9th.
