Minor Midgets Heading to OMHA Finals
The Free Flow Petroleum Minor Midgets are heading to the OMHA Championships this coming weekend Mar 2-4 at St Andrews College in Toronto. Other teams competing are the perennial favourite Oakville Blades who have been ranked #1 all season. Joining them are the explosive YDE Express with 3 of the top 5 scoring leaders and the #1 ranked player for the OHL draft. Barrie Colts, #1 in the ETA west and Guelph Gryphons round out the competitors in a round robin format with the top 2 teams playing in the Gold Medal game Sunday while #3 and 4 will compete in the Bronze Medal game.
The Quinte Red Devils earned their spot in a one game take all play-in game this past Tuesday in Peterboro against the #1 team in the ETA east. In a see saw battle, Quinte gained the lead early and never relinquished it to the Petes. Leading 3-1 late in the game, Petes scored a late tally to put some pressure on the Red Devils but they never broke and. On tinted to gut out a tight 3-2 win to earn their trip to the OMHA's.
Quinte previously battled the Barrie Colts to a deciding Game 5 thriller that ended in the Colts scoring on an Overtime knuckle puck. Previously Colts won game one in regulation and Game 2 again in Overtime. Quinte took game 3 and 4 to force the deciding game 5 of the semi-final series.
In their opening round 1/4 final series against Clarington, Quinte prevailed in a hard fought 6 Game series in a come from behind fashion being down 5-3 in points to win the final 2 games.
