Two Victories to Open the 2021-22 Season
The 2021-22 season opener sent the U14’s on the road to face the York Simcoe Express (YSE). Though, not even the long travel or the rain dampened the U14’s spirits. The Devil’s proved their readiness for the return to hockey. Although the home team was first to light up the scoreboard, Graydon Walst (unassisted) responded, notching Quinte’s first goal, late in the first period. Seconds later, Mathew Airhart followed suit, by a Jack Foley set-up. With intense back-and-forth play, the score remained 2-1 heading into the second and third periods.
The action continued in the third period, with YSE balancing the game, 2-2. Until Quinte executed a commanding response, as JC Lemieux, scored two in a row (both unassisted). Followed by an empty-net insurance marker by Max Dubé, from a Jake Campbell feed. As Katste Brant, played a strong game between the pipes, the U14’s earned the 5-2 victory!
On Sunday, the U14’s hosted the Whitby Wildcats in the home opener at the Wally Dever. With the first half of the game quiet on the scoreboard, the U14’s eventually spoke first. Working together, Lemieux, with an assist by Foley, lit up the clock. The outcome was quickly doubled, as Jake Campbell (assist to Noah Lesser) scored the final goal of the game. The 2-0 victory, not only secured the U14’a a second win for the weekend, but also a shut-out for goaltender, Cohen Bedore.
A true team effort in the first weekend of the season!
