The
Breakaway Fuels U10 Red Devils headed to London for the prestigious Drew Doughty tournament
this past weekend.

The Young
Devils rolled through the round robin games undefeated with wins over Oakville,
Guelph and Brantford.
In game one
on Friday morning, after a scoreless first period the boys buckled down and
scored 6 unanswered in the last two frames for a convincing 6-0 victory over
the Oakville Rangers. Scoring was done
by Jackson Simpson (3), Reid Haley, Kolton Solmes and Ethan Dowling. Assists went to Haley (3), Mason Cooke (2), Wade Robinson,
Kai Mackie, Jaxon Scott, Solmes and Dowling.
After a
little rest they were back at it against the Guelph Gryphons in the afternoon. Once again the first period was a hard fought
battle ending scoreless. As in game one
the Devils took over and finished with an 8-1 win. Scorers were Mackie (2), Simpson (2), Haley,
Robinson, Tripp Plumley and Greyson Rennie.
Assists went to Dowling (2), Scott (2), Cooke, Rennie, Plumley, Simpson,
Haley, Robinson, Avery Thickson and Silas Templar.
Sat morning
saw the kids battle the Brantford 99’ers and come away with a 4-2 victory. Scoring by Mackie, Cooke, Simpson and
Thickson. Assists to Dowling, Simpson,
Haley, Cooke, Templar and Robinson.
It was off
to the Quarterfinals Sat afternoon against the Halton Hurricanes. With a strong effort the Devils came away on
top 5-1. Scoring by Mackie (2), Solmes,
Simpson and Plumley. Assists going to
Thickson (2), Evan VanEgmond, Dowling and Solmes.
With an
early start Sun morning the U10’s had a date with the host London Junior
Knights. Greyson Rennie started the
scoring in the first unassisted. The
second was a scoreless tight checking period that saw several chances but no
scoring. London tied it early in the
third but not to be outdone the Devils rebounded and scored two more to punch
their ticket to the finals. Solmes and
Haley found the back of the net with the assists going to Mackie, Dowling,
Scott and Solmes. Jordan Andrews was
solid all game between the pipes.
The finals
saw the young Devils squaring off with a tough Barrie Colts team. The Colts struck first but that would be all
they would get by goalie Deacon Vos for the game and the Devils roared back in
the last two periods scoring 5 straight to win the Championship. Lighting the lamp in the finals were Dowling
(2), Solmes, Robinson and Mackie with assists going to Mackie (2), Ryder Bradford,
Scott, Solmes and Dowling.
