The Breakaway Fuels U10 Red Devils had 3 home games in 4
days this weekend.
Thursday night saw the young Devils square off with the
Whitby Wildcats at the newly renovated Warkworth arena. Mason Cooke started the scoring early when he
banged home a rebound off a shot from Jackson Simpson. At the end of one the Devils remained up 1-0. Then some sloppy play and penalties allowed a
very good Whitby team to take a 3-1 lead into the third. Kai Mackie cut the lead to one with assists
going to Ethan Dowling and Greyson Rennie.
Kolton Solmes would then tie it with an assist from Dowling. The Wildcats would not go away and took the
lead with 1:16 remaining. After a
timeout to calm the troops Dowling fired a shot on net and Solmes smashed home
the rebound to tie it again with 50s left.
It would finish that way with the Devils earning a good character tie
after two comebacks in the third period. Jordan Andrews made some great saves to keep
the game tied. Player of the game went
to Silas Templar.
The U10’s would get to kick off Quinte Day at the Quinte
Sports and Wellness Centre with a Saturday morning contest against the
Peterborough Petes. Once again the Young
Devils struck first and this time often.
The Petes would briefly make it interesting in the second making the
score 4-3 but the home town kids took over in the third scoring 4 unanswered to
finish the game 8-3. Scoring for the
Devils was Solmes (2), Mackie (2), Dowling, Mckinley Gunning, Evan VanEgmond
and Reid Haley. Assists going to Mackie
(4), Solmes (3), Dowling (2), Tripp Plumley and Evan VanEgmond. Deacon Vos was solid all game between the
pipes. Player of the game went to Reid
Haley.
The Central Ontario Wolves travelled down Sunday afternoon
for a contest at the Madoc arena. The
young devils showed no signs of fatigue as they battled hard for a full 40
minutes against a very tough Central team.
Dowling would open the scoring partway through the second on a beautiful
pass from Mackie. The third period would
start 1-0 but just 10 seconds in Dowling returned the favour and delivered a
cross ice pass to Mackie to make it 2-0.
Kolton Solmes would then score from Dowling and Mackie. The Wolves scored with 5 minutes remaining to
cut the lead to 3-1 but Jordan Andrews would shut the door for the rest of the
game to get the win. Player of the game
went to Tripp Plumley.
The Little Devils are on the road next weekend for 2 games
in Orillia against the North Central Predators and one game in Barrie against
the Colts.
