The Breakaway Fuels U10 Red Devils are the champions of the
31st annual Hamilton Steel Classic.

The young Devils kicked things off on Friday with round
robin wins over the Mississauga Rebels and Cambridge Hawks with scores of 5-3
and 9-2 respectively. Over the course of
the day the offense found its grove and the boys would carry that into Saturday
with convincing back to back 11-0 wins over the Markham Majors and Credit River
Capitals.
With the round robin portion completed the kids headed into
Sunday with the first place seeding. The
semifinals saw them square off once again against the Rebels. Although Fridays game was a back and forth
affair, in this one the Quinte kids continued their powerful attack and skated
to an 8-3 win. Kai Mackie led the way
with 5 goals and two assists. Other scorers
were Tripp Plumley, Ethan Dowling and Jackson Simpson. Assists went to Dowling (3), Jax Scott, Reid
Haley, McKinley Gunning and Kolton Solmes. Deacon Vos got the win. With that win it was
off to the finals!
Three and a half hours later the boys faced off against the hometown
Hamilton Steel and they came out on fire with Kolton Solmes scoring just 23
seconds in with Dowling drawing the assist.
Dowling would find the back of the net three minutes later tipping in a
Silas Templar point shot. Jax Scott
followed that up with the Devils third goal shortly after the midway mark of
the first period. They would add three
more in the second by Mackie, Avery Thickson and Mason Cooke with Dowling, Reid
Haley and Ryder Bradford drawing assists.
Heading into the third with a comfortable 6-2 lead the kids kept their
foot on the gas and added two more by Greyson Rennie and Jackson Simpson for a
championship final score of 8-2. Jordan
Andrews earned the finals victory.
Next weekend sees the Breakaway Fuels boys get back to
league play with a double header on Saturday against the Barrie Colts. Game one at noon in Marmora and game two at
6pm at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre.
