On Saturday Dec 9th the Breakaway Fuels U10 Red
Devils faced a very strong Barrie Colts team in a double header.
Game one was in Marmora and the young Devils jumped out to
an early lead when Ethan Dowling found the back of the net on a pass from Kai
Mackie. Despite some good pressure the
period would end 1-0. The Colts would
take a 2-1 lead before Mason Cooke tied it with the assist going to Jackson
Simpson. Kolton Solmes would give the
home team a 3-2 lead late in the second with Dowling picking up an assist. The game would stay that way until the midway
mark of the third when an unfortunate bounce allowed the road team to tie it. 8 seconds later the Colts scored again to take
a 4-3 lead and would hold on for the win.
Five hours later would see the two teams face off at the
Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre. This
time the Colts got the jump on the Devils and got out to a 2-0 lead halfway
through the first period. The young
Devils battled back in the second to tie the score at 2 on goals by Solmes and
Simpson with assists going to Tripp Plumley, Wade Robinson, Reid Haley and
Greyson Rennie. The teams battled
throughout the second and headed to the third tied at 2. As was the case in game one the Colts got the
better of the Quinte kids in the third and moved out to a 5-2 lead before
Mackie would score unassisted.
Unfortunately it was too little too late and despite a late flurry of
action the boys wound up on the wrong end of a 5-3 score.
Moving forward this week the U10’s will look to rebound with
games against Kingston on Wednesday at CAA, Whitby on Saturday at the Keeler
Centre, and another double header on Sunday on the road at Ajax/Pickering and
Central Ontario Wolves.
