The Breakaway U10’s grabbed 4 important points this weekend
to maintain first place in the East
Saturday saw the young Devils face the Clarington Toros for
the first time this season on a cold day in Marmora. The first period saw chances for both sides
but ended scoreless thanks to some stellar goaltending at each end of the ice. Kai Mackie would find the back of the net twice
in a fast paced second period with assists going to Greyson Rennie, Silas
Templar and Ethan Dowling. Jackson
Simpson would extend the lead in the third on a pass from Evan VanEgmond. Clarington would get one back midway through
the third but Jordan Andrews shut the door after that leaving the final score
at 3-1 for the Red Devils.
Sunday the boys would head east to the Invista Centre for an
afternoon tilt with the Jr Gaels. The Devils
opened the scoring 4 minutes in when Simpson finished a nice passing play from
VanEgmond and Mason Cooke. Kingston
would answer just a few seconds later to even the score. Before the end of the frame Mackie would
score a shorthanded goal on a stretch pass from Dowling. The Gaels would score a shorty of their own
to tie it midway through the second. Kolton Solmes would answer quickly with
assists going to Mackie and Dowling.
Dowling would score 40s after that from Solmes and Rennie to stretch the
lead to 4-2. Avery Thickson would score
on a bar down blast before the end of the second with assists going to Tripp
Plumley and Jax Scott. The third was
more of the same with the final score being 7-3. Scoring in the third for the Breakaway Boys
was Solmes unassisted and Simpson from Ryder Bradford. Deacon Vos stood tall in net for the win.
Next weekend sees the kids have a rematch with the
Clarington Toros at the Keeler Centre on Saturday at 1pm.
